Stay tuned for daily pre-show (and show week) updates next week on MDC featuring the five most coveted new faces coming out of the NY castings . In the meantime...the February Italian Vogue cover featuring the ever-legendary Linda Evangelista as photographed by Steven Meisel. Makes you want to take up martial arts doesn't it.

This is an image of Karolina Kurkova, in the new Valentino campaign, leaving no doubt as to why the status of supermodel is hers to claim. Rien à redire !

Keeping Up With Jessica

Jessica Miller / Next. Ph. Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin. Paris Vogue Feb 2003
Jessica Miller continues her impressive editorial rampage as she nails the February cover of Paris Vogue, even as she made her couture debut this week. With the Fall 03 shows being the first time Jessica has been on the "open market" for NY and Milan, this striking cover could not be better timed.

Suddenly Susan

Susan/Elite. Ph by Terry Richardson for Eres
Also looming quite impressively on the new model horizon is Elite's triple campaign threat Susan Eldrige. As a face for Eres, Sisley and Marc Jacobs, Susan has been rising nicely in the margins but it's Terry Richardson who seems to have adopted her wholeheartedly as resident muse as he has her lined up for forthcoming shoots in V, Another, Self-Service and ID. She might go massive!

Highlight Hannah

Hannah/DNA Ph. Jim Macri/V magazine.
Meet Hannah, DNA's fetching new breakout face. This stunner has been racking up all the right editorials, shooting Pop (10pg. Only Girl) w. Liz Collins, Russian Vogue 14 pg. (Only Girl) w. Vanina Sorrenti, Self Service 5 pg. (Only Girl) w. Horst, W Magazine Portrait (single) w. Mert and Marcus, The Face 1 (single + interview) w. Liz Collins while being previewed as a hot face to watch in V magazine by Jim Marci. And if that momentum doesn't deserve a special asterik on your casting lists, then what does?

Fabulous Frankie

Frankie Rayder / Women | S/S 03 Chanel campaign
Last show season, the sensational return of Frankie Rayder / Women to the scene left naysayers speechless. Now Miss Rayder is taking full advantage of the moment as she heads for the Paris Coutures before coming back to NY for what promises to be an epic F/W season. In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for her editorial rampage with upcoming stints in Harper's Bazaar with both Solve Sunsbo and Inez and Vinoodh Matadin, Numero with David Bailey, Flare w. Phillipe Cometti and French Vogue with Sam Haskins as well as Craig Mc Dean.

1 Nation

sveva.jpg
Sveva / 1
The driven contingent at 1 Management is prepping itself for the upcoming round of shows by pulling in an impressive roster of new faces to keep your line-ups lively. From former MOTW Louise (watch for her upcoming stint in the McQueen fragrance ads) to Ania who appears in Testino's new Moschino ads to newcomers Biljana, Line, Tetyana, Yvonne and Romina, the pickings are quite rich. Key girls to look out for also are Natalie, the stunning Canadian that is one of the best new girls glimpsed so far this season and the stealth Italian sensation, Sveva, star of the current Costume National campaign as well as the Only Girl in Solve Sunsbo's editorial in the current issue of Flare. Interestingly enough, all indications are that superstar Eva Herzigova, in a rare moment, will be in New York early February, doing a select handful of shows. Let the clamour begin.

Reference Library

Exhausted all the redundant 70's references at Gallagher's and looking for a new bolt of imagery? Well it's mid-80's illustration to the rescue. What's looking fresh right now is the work of illustrator Tony Viramontes whose high contrast, flat effect style would be a perfect point of inspiration for today's Photoshop heavy photography. Known for his work in The Face as well as on album covers for Janet Jackson and that shortlived Duran Duran offshoot Arcadia, Viramontes' work is being rediscovered by a seminal group of young photographers and art directors. Come to think of it, how sick would it be for a shrewd DJ to throw some Arcadia into the catwalk mix of the upcoming shows. Can there be anything more fashionable than the vanity projects of bored young English millionaires?

Elite Army

Julie Graz/Elite | Ph: Michel Comte for German Vogue
Elite, the latest agency to sign on to MODELS.com's scouting platform seems to be bursting at the seams with hot new models. The latest break out girl joining recent hits like Linda V, Nadine, Caitronia and Dewi? It's Julie Graz, young veteran of the current D+G campaign as well as the headliner in editorials in Numero (Ph. Karen Collins) and The Face (Ph. Norbert). Put an asterik beside this stunner's name as one of the must-see new show girls.

Scandale du Success

Gucci Spring 03 Ph. Mario Testino
Looks like Tom Ford has done it again. The master of media manipulation has launched another eyebrow raising campaign trading freely on a risque first image. The question is, will the rest of the series follow suit or has the point been made? Logomania will never die (it just keeps cropping up in the strangest places).

Beautiful Vision

Aurelie/Vision
Despite the incessant whispers of upcoming turbulence, Vision NY forges ahead with its own focused agenda. For the Fall 03 show castings the program in the words of the agency's Creative Director "is about ultra-gorgeous and ultra-chic. Last season everybody was going after the obviously beautiful and sexy girls. This season it's a little more decadent. It's about being very beautiful and very very elegant. Like the sexy heiress who would hang out at a costume ball at Le Palace". And who are the new Vision girls who casting directors might want to employ for this new elegance? High on that list are Brazilian newcomers Karoline (former MOTW), Ana and Talidy, as well as rising faces Tamara, Quiana and Aurelie.

Beauty In Numbers

elizecv.jpg
Elize Crombez/Next Italian Vogue. Ph. Meisel
Facts , figures and statistics. The MDC staff drowns in them, using these numbers to help decide who to shoot next and who to rank where. For the record, here are the top runway walkers for the S/S 03 show season, based on the number of shows booked. We could publish each girl's show charts, as well as their subsequent editorial and campaign bookings, but that would require an entire site onto itself wouldn't it. Hmmmmmmm.

Knockout Natalia

Natalia/DNA in Calvin Klein swimwear ad. Ph. Mario Sorrenti
The first images from Mario Sorrenti's St Barts gig for Calvin Klein are in and the most wanted new model of the moment, Natalia Vodionova certainly delivers her ethereal charms. And for those short sighted detractors who presume the Russian beauty is all sugar and spice, then Dec's Italian Vogue sumptuous "Day For Night" editorial ought to lay that myth to rest. The modeling world, right this minute is this girl's oyster.
