Time and time again, models have been subjugated to homogenous blanketed beauty looks. The thought process was that everyone had to fit into the look of the season and standing out too much would distract from the collection. Although this mindset continues to be the standard, many designers championed individuality this year especially when it came to models rocking their natural locks. With breakout year of models like Lineisy Montero and Karly Loyce, walking in top shows like Prada, Celine, and Balenciaga, the trend showed many in the industry its approachable vitality. Model, Maria Borges stormed the Victoria’s Secret runway as the first model to rock her naturally curly fro — a first for the lingerie brand that has historically valued long, tousled waves. The look seemed to go hand-in-hand with the desire for more diversity within the model ranks – what a breath of fresh air!
