Solid Gold

One of the most striking trends to emerge recently is the use of gold to enhance features or to simply to create a bold metallic statement on eyes, lips and skin. From the dramatic gilded brows and lips at Dior’s SS14 show, to the subtle golden glaze models sported at Pucci’s fall show, makeup artists have embraced the look. Off the catwalk women have been playing with metallic textures for ages unleashing their creativity via an array of sparkling shadows, glosses and powders. Makeup artist Mary Irwin guides us through the gold rush and pushes the limits of the look on the beautiful Damaris Lewis.

24K KISS

If you don’t have gold leaf laying around, experimenting with the latest in metalicized lip colors can create just as enticing a look. “Gold is timeless” says makeup artist, Mary Irwin “the ancient Egyptians viewed it as the symbol of eternal life. From ancient Crete to the runways of today, gold has always been an essential part of fashion.”

GOLDFINGERS

A playful manicure is one of the simplest ways to take on the trend. For something as dynamic Damaris’ pointed bronze manicure above try Deborah Lippmann in Boom Boom Pow – golden glitter polish, or Swagga Like Us, a mirrored chrome color.

SHIMMERING SKIN + SMOLDERING EYES

“A hint of gold is beautiful on all skin tones, from dark mahogany to translucent pale. It is a universal highlighter. Rose gold on cheeks is particularly flattering. Try Tarte Amazonian clay blush in Glisten.

You can do a quick 5 minute summer smokey eye using a brown pencil liner in the lash line and make up for ever gold aqua cream smudged all over the lid. Finish with a coat of black mascara – I love Make Up For Ever Smokey Extravagant Mascara.”

THE SHINING

“When you think of summer and beautiful weather you think of bronze and gold – adding a sheer gold highlight over your foundation warms you up without making you look overly tanned.”
