Though the line is known for its expressive minimalism, the Calvin Klein aesthetic has long been embraced by the street. Perhaps that is why designer, Kevin Carrigan looked towards metropolitian influences for Spring, crafting collections united by their youthful sensibility and crisp feel. As editors and insiders looked on an army of sculpted models posed against an all-white chain link fence that echoed the look of high school basketball courts – a fitting choice given the sporty vibe that moved through all three collections. Calvin Klein Jeans was filled with unique details – denim jackets with a crackle wash that felt like velvet, bleached pastel jeans created with frayed edges and faded colors reminiscent of ocean mist. White Label’s mix of perforated leathers and re-imagined basics like a sweatshirt merged with a sweater to create the ultimate easygoing pullover was compelling, especially the pieces which reflected what Carrigan dubbed “urban sophistication.” When it came time for swimwear the focus was as always the body – which was front and center in matte lycra pieces that clung to every curve. All in all it was an impressive showing – one guaranteed to make its way back to the streets that inspired it.
