Nicholas Kirkwood SS14

When it comes to inventive luxury footwear, Nicholas Kirkwood is in a class by himself. With each season, he pushes the creative boundary just a bit more and legions of devotees love him for it. Spring finds the designer in a Morrocan mood as viewed through the sartorial lens of the mid-1970s. Rather than going for a literal interpretation of either theme, Kirkwood merges the two into an appealing and modern mix of cutouts, woven silk, elaborate jacquards and the return of the cork heel. Standouts included a delectable series of variations on the laser cut theme, each one more intricate than the last leading up to a stunning open toe bootie. Heel appreciators are sure to feel like kids in candy shops, and with the collection showcased vividly in Robert Story’s striking window installations we did too.
