Michael Bastian S/S 13

There was a ’70s feel to Michael Bastian’s Spring 2013 collection, and that was even before Donna Summer’s ecstatic moaning in “Love to Love You Baby” came on over the speakers. The designer, who has made a specialty of smooth, sleek uptown classics, took to more relaxed climes this season, bringing a Palm Beach vibe to the light pastels and skimpy swimwear. There was a sporty appeal to the classic pieces, with even the suits taking on an athletic air with their sleeves rolled to the elbows and the lapels flipped up. Alejandro Ingelmo contributed gorgeous seersucker sneakers, and we were particularly drawn to Rodrigo Calazans’ Mr. Kim cap with a visor brim. It was all easygoing and cheery, as is Bastian’s MO, a fine-tuned vision of modern elegance with timeless appeal.
