Kel Markey. PH courtesy of Supreme Management
Is that slouchy cool, the air of androgyny, the effortless ease down the runway? Whatever it is Kel Markey has firmly worked her way on the girls most wanted ranks this season. It is a great triumph for the girl that took her time to find her rhythm. Kel’s unique style found favor on the runways of Balenciaga, Celine, YSL , Chanel, Vuitton, Prada and Proenza and the brilliant thing is it now finds favor off the runway in the crucial editorial and advertising market.

A couple of these girls aren’t really newcomers for this season. I mean Kel, Marie, Lina, and Ava aren’t new girls for FW12. They debuted in past seasons. I really don’t get it.

She is great, no question, but she’s far from a new face.

she’s still new and she’s still “green”.
new doesn’t have to mean they were just plucked out of their hometown. its people who think like the above comments who cause all the troubles in the industry. i don’t get it.

@kitkat but it’s the whole idea of labeling someone a “newcomer”.Being “green” and a newcomer are two different things. There are plenty of actual newcomers who DEBUTED this season (keyword debuted) like Franzi Mueller and Elena Bartels. The way I see it, when a model has had show cards out in past seasons or walked shows not as an exclusive, they shouldn’t be considered newcomers.

Why does it matter if they’ve walked before or not? Kel had a wonderful high fashion breakthrough season, like Ava. Not everyone gets lucky right off the bat [look at Joan Smalls] and I think she’ll have a long career commercially and in high fashion.

There is something boyishly masculine about Kel,but in a good way.Think it’s her eyes.Really like her.
