Sleek and chic at Altuzarra | Images by Julia Chesky for Models.com
Joseph Altuzarra has been giving us memorable collections for several seasons now, but his fall showing raised the bar for his line. Winning the CFDA Fashion Fund award, seems to have infused Altuzarra’s work with a confidence and creativity that was only hinted at in previous collections. It takes a special designer to translate esoteric source material like 1970s Italian comic, Corto Maltese, into a womenswear showing, but Altuzarra proved up to the task. The sea captain, adventurer hero of the comics provided the inspiration for military detailed overcoats, sleek knee high boots and a host of strong shouldered, fur embellished pieces that balanced strength with sensuality. The tiered Moroccan print dresses that closed the show added a bit of dreamy romance to a collection rife with sex appeal.
