The Art of Transformation

Alex Box, has long been one of MDC’s favorite makeup talents, her work for publications like Dazed & Confused, i-D and Vogue Italia, continuously pushes the boundaries of what makeup can do. With a painterly approach to makeup (she studied art before heading into fashion) and a unique eye for color, Alex never fails to impress. On Tuesday night we had the pleasure of watching Alex at work, at a special master class for her cosmetic line Illamasqua. Dubbed “makeup for your alter ego” the line aims to bring a little bit of editorial glamour into everyone’s life with bold color and professional quality products. Held at the Soho Grand, the event allowed an up close and personal look at a true artist at work. Take a glimpse at the incredible transformation Alex gives to model, Allaire Heisig (Ford).

From the start the look is pure drama; strong brows are a signature throughout Alex’s work and here she creates the look in bright blue using the brand’s Liquid Metal in Superior, metallic cream product that can be used all over.

The smoky eyes were also created with Liquid Metal and a bit of pure pigment in Alluvium.

At the midway point, Allaire looks absolutely stunning, but things can go one step further…

Using a handmade stencil and a bit of bright pink blush, Alex takes the look to the limit, creating a swirling pattern all over Allaire’s face!

  1. Gorgeous! So cool and artistic! I love makeup, people should wear their makeup like this everyday in the office!!! So tired of seeing these dull, un-madeup faces, backpacks, baggy pants and north face jackets in Manhattan. Glamour! Art! Bravo!
