Met Gala: The Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion
As usual, the first Monday in May held fashion’s most exciting night, the Met Gala. This year, the gala celebrated the exhibit Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which was co-chaired by Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, and Anna Wintour. The exhibit features 220 garments and accessories that are connected by nature and grouped into the themes of earth, air, and water. The galleries, designed by Leong Leong, showcases precious pieces from the Institute’s private collection that have not been seen in years. The exhibit features a range of offerings from Cristòbal Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Elsa Schiaparelli, Charles James, Charles Frederick Worth, Loewe, Alexander McQueen, Thom Browne, Iris van Herpen, and many more. The Met Gala green carpet was inspired by J.G. Ballard’s dystopian 1962 short story, “The Garden of Time,” which served as a metaphor for the cycles of creation and destruction that define humanity and clothing. Models and celebrities like Zendaya, Gigi Hadid, and Anok Yai attended and made bold statements in their looks.
