Phil McGowan (former manager at IMG NY who discovered Sessilee Lopez and Jasmine Tookes, and helped develop the careers of Frida Gustavsson and Ajak Deng, among others) scouted Lashonda as she was working at a Coney Island cotton candy concession over the summer. With her amazing cheekbones and super long legs, it’s hard to believe that she had never modelled before, but this girl is definitely a natural. These are the kind of models that get my model eye twitching. The dark even toned skinned with the amazing bone structure and they have that earthy feel are amazing but I could still see her doing a punky vivienne westwood or even Christoper Kane show welll

What a beauty. Perfect timing indeed, with such a high-prospect model as Lashonda acquiring contract while Joan Smalls blazes the world stage, the phenomenal new spread of Ajak in Obsession bridging a cultural/ethnic injustice in creative direction, the most diverse issue of Harpers Bazaar (current issue) that I’ve seen in ever! – it seems as the black female models, Asians and latins may finally achieve acceptance as non-seasonal industry mainstay, very worthy and capable of the same work so readily available for caucasian models.
Still quite a ways to go but an added presence as Lashonda will surely contribute to the current momentum.
