Biography

Nationalities: United States, United Kingdom
Model, author, and activist Emily Ratajkowski is one of the most talked-about faces in fashion and media.

Ratajkowski was born in London and raised in Encinitas, California. Her parents are both artists; her father a painter and her mother an English professor and writer. Their careers led Ratajkowski to live and travel throughout Europe at a young age, spending much of her time in Ireland and Spain.

Ratajkowski has seen exponential success in her modeling career, where she has covered Italian, Spanish, and German editions of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, V Magazine, Madame Figaro, GQ, and Glamour Magazine, as well as InStyle’s British, Australian and American editions. She has become a subject of choice for renowned fashion photographers including Inez and Vinoodh, Mert & Marcus, David Sims, Mario Testino, and Mario Sorrenti, among others. Ratajkowski has since appeared in advertising campaigns for Versace, Paco Rabanne, Marc Jacobs, and Kèrastase.

Her career in fashion behind-the-lens and her San Diego upbringing inspired a clothing line of her own, Inamorata, released in 2017. The line of swim and lounge wear promotes acceptance and accentuation of any and every female figure. Successfully translating her more than 26 million Instagram followers into consumers, Ratajkowski’s entrepreneurship earned her a place on Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2020, just three years after the line launched.

An advocate for feminism and womanhood in all forms, Ratajkowski published her debut essay “Buying Myself Back” in The Cut in 2020. A critically acclaimed work on the commodification of image, the essay led Emily to publish My Body, an anthology of essays on the nuances of 21st century womanhood in November of 2021. The anticipated book became an instant New York Times bestseller. The New York Times calls My Body “sincere” and “transcendent.” It has been recommended by Vogue and Time magazines as a must-read.

Further re-claiming her body as her own, in April 2021, Ratajkowski sold a conceptual image of her body, minted as an NFT, at Christie’s auction.

Ratjkowski has found success in the modeling, writing, and acting fields. In 2014, she was seen in her first major movie role, playing Andie in Gone Girl, the David Fincher-directed adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestselling thriller novel. It was released nationwide to critical, award, and box office acclaim. Since, Ratajkowski has starred opposite Zac Efron in the coming-of-age drama We Are Your Friends and Theo James in the thriller-romance Lying & Stealing. Additionally, Ratajkowski was featured in Amy Schumer’s romantic-comedy I Feel Pretty.
