On the weekend before the full frenzy of NY Fashion Week, seventeen year old Belgian beauty Roos (pronounced "rose") is standing in a Financial District loft watching a very strange and somewhat seedy world being built around her.

Stylist John Hullum is tending to one of those infamous polka dot Imitation Of Christ blouses so that its abundant folds does not obscure the ironic black knickers with the dollar sign on the front attached to the requisite garter belts.

Photographer Martha Camarillo in the mean time is debating the choice between shooting on a clean white backdrop or engaging the use of the very down market "rose wallpaper" set.

And while some seventeen year olds would be unnerved by the strength of the content and the context she would be about to step into, Roos doesn't even bat one distressed eyelash. Whenever doing these cover profiles the challenge is to observe the girl without making that act of observation uncomfortable. For the most part figuring out what makes a model-of-the moment tick can be pretty elusive.
