Agency Spotlight

By Wayne Sterling

Next is one of the most powerful agencies in the world, with an empire that spans the globe from NY to Paris to Miami, and yet it is a relatively young company. Forged in 1989 the ensuing decade has seen Next rapidly fast-forward to becoming a giant in the modeling industry, complete with a lucrative file of big-money clients, a very focused management policy on their guys and girls and the ability to leverage careers with a skill and dedication that makes them a dream for new models. Agency co-owner Faith Kates took time out of her hectic schedule to sit in with MODELS.com's Wayne Sterling. This was her point-of-view.

I have to comment on the structure of your booking table, with Faith Kates sitting at the head of the table, flanked by the bookers, much like a general heading up an army. Am I reading too much into this?
(Laughter) Yes, you are reading too much into the army thing. I love being at the table and working with the models as well as the clients. I always have felt you have to hear what's going on minute to minute to make the right decision. Hands down, I feel we have the strongest system and network in the world.

Next is barely 12 years old but already has the feeling of a fixture in the modeling industry. What's the secret to your stability?
Next Model Management endures and maintains its stablity and success because it consists of all the necassary elements: prosperous talent, top notch agents, steady clients and a terrific management team. Our agents are the best in the world--managing our talent while also providing personal support to each individual model. At the same time, we are servicing and building the client side. And, it does not hurt that our accounting department surpasses all others, which as you can imagine makes all concerned parties happy.
