Yves Saint Laurent S/S 11

The classic Yves references were there; crisp white trenches, billowing silk blouses and sleek jumpsuits all called to mind the seventies heyday of Saint Laurent without resorting to mimicry and the fashion savvy will also spot a thoughtful reprise of Le Smoking, done with subtlety and grace. There was also a touch of flamenco flair, via a series of ruffled dresses that are certain to become repeat players in the editorial pages. This variety offered may seem like a retrospective of Saint Laurent signatures, but Pilati adds his adept touch. Finding the balance between respectfully embracing the heritage of the brand and adding your own mark, can be a difficult task for designers, but it is one that Pilati seems to have mastered. His look for spring is classic YSL but Pilati’s unique breed of sexiness is especially evident in those sheer numbers from the streamlined finale.

Not crazy about the entire collection an excepting for a few pieces such as the turquoise dress. The frill is a bit much

I really hope Stefano stays in the house. This is better then last season, but I don’t think it is his best. Some of the ruffle pieces are sketch, but the rest was very elegant.

I love Pilati for the house, i love this collection, liked last one, and adored spring 2010! I hope YSL will do couture one day, along Lanvin…. That would be haven.
BTW, Kendra Spears had an amazing season after a moment of absence. I expext a lot from her.

so sad he is gone, but this collection does a great service to the legacy of YSL, some truly great pieces here, and some nice models, though overall the models could be a lot stronger

Saint Laurent’s brilliant use of color seemed almost completely forgotten in Pilati’s last few YSL shows, and I’m glad someone as influential as Wintour called him on it. He clearly took notes; THIS looks like a YSL collection. Modern but with a streamlined retro flair. Great job.

I love the collection, it’s so modern. I wish I could have been there in person. I am an aspiring model, and I really enjoy looking at behind the catwalk photos, of the models getting their hair and make up all on. Such a difficult field of work however.
