If you could tear your eyes away from the streaker who stormed the runway at Prabal Gurung’s fall showing you were treated to a vibrant collection from a designer at the height of his talents. With the Himalayan kingdom of Mustang and its secluded beauty as an inspiration point, Gurung crafted a bold set of looks united by their luxurious feel. Nearly every designer plays with knitwear during fall/winter, but Gurung’s take on the staple was uniquely sumptuous; ribbed sweaters complimented by fur and silk, layered with chunky scarves and worn over the sheerest of skirts. An appealing combination, especially when delivered in fiery monochrome – Natalie Westling’s freshly dyed crimson coif matched her look perfectly.
It wouldn’t be a Prabal collection without an assortment of awards season ready pieces and the designer did not disappoint. Sticking with a color palette of maroon, ochre and flame red, Gurung created an evening uniform that was heavy on the drama and powerful sex appeal. With slits racing up the thighs, hints of bare stomach and the occasional touch of transparency the sensuality quotient hit an all time high. Body consciousness was clearly on the designer’s mind, but even his sexiest looks left a little to the imagination. When Elizabeth Erm and Pauline stepped out in a pair of staggering red gowns jaws dropped and the appearance of Joan Smalls gliding down the catwalk in navy sealed the deal. When it comes to making an impact sometimes less is more – streakers of the world, take note.
