So well deserved. An outsize beauty and an inspiration. Popular for all the right reasons.

  3. Lisa says:

It’s wonderful to see how far she has come. She was only booking catalogs for years because her former agent thought she was too “ethnic” to do high fashion work. Glad she (and her current agent) proved them wrong we need more people that realize beauty comes in all shades.
Hope she stays on top for a while 🙂

  4. David says:

OMG and she’s also receiving the Model of the Year award presented by Iman at the 9th Annual Style Awards. Go Joan!!!

I am soooo happy to read this! Joan, Congratulations!! This is more than well deserved. I am so glad that all of your hard work is paying off! The most beautiful thing about you is your incredible personality….your good looks are a nice bonus 🙂 THANK YOU FOR MAKING PUERTO RICO AND BORICUAS EVERYWHERE PROUD AND FOR ENCOURAGING AND MOTIVATING US TO NEVER GIVE UP OUR DREAMS. You give me goosebumps….in a good way lol.

I lovVVVEEE this :))) IM SO happy for JOAN and karlie:)) and even seeing Lui Wen as the first asian top five:)) but where is COCO ROCHA on the industry icons? she has her own manikin for goodness sake and she is all over high fashion and commercials. Anyways I love that after two years they finally changed it

  7. MODELLOBELLO says:

FINALLY FINALLY! JOAN SO DESERVES THIS AND LOTS OF BARRIERS HAD BEEN BROKEN. IM SO GLAD THAT MODELS.COM SAW MY COMMENT ABOUT NOT NUMBERING ICONS AND SEPARATING THE TRUE SUPERMODELS! IM LOVING MODELS.COM NOW! ANYWAYS, THIS IS SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO MANY PEOPLE AS IT SHOWS THAT DIVERSITY IN THE FASHION WORLD IS GETTING BETTER AND MORE OPEN MINDED! I LOVE

industry icons? If Caroline Trentini and Iselin Steiro are Industry Icons, so are (I hate to admit it) Snejana Onopka, Anja Rubik, Sasha Pivovarova, Julia Stegner, Gemma Ward, Freja Beha Erichsen, Nadja Auermann and so many more because they have all been working for a really long time and still have relevance in the business. They don’t do runway unless they want to.

You should either reconsider the industry icon thing. I would say true models that come close to supermodels status of your list are: Amber, Angela, Carmen, Carolyn, Daria, Guinevere, Helena, Karen, Karolina, Kristen, Lara, Liya, Malgosia, Mariacarla, Natalia, Raquel, Shalom, Stella and maybe some additions like Nadja Auermann

How come Adriana Lima is a supermodel while Cindy Crawford is not?

  9. kell says:

@congrants I think cindy and nadja are a supermodel but currently not working as much right now, if they list ALL the supermodels including those who are not CURENTLY working it will be hard as those will include tyra, carla bruni, anna bayle, iman etc.. too much and many would be left out so its chaos! but i do agree with the idustry icons thing, i.e. caroline and anja is no where near natalia

  10. Ana says:

Very well deserved, she is a QUEEN!!

  11. Stefany says:
