Fendi Men F/W 2013

Silvia Venturini Fendi headed north for Fall 2013, finding inspiration in the chilly climes of the idiosyncratic isle of Iceland for her gorgeous and luxurious collection. Fendi is known for its pelts, and there were plenty of those—including Nicolas Ripoll’s plush jacket paired with furry boots—but the real standouts were the emphatic outerwear (see Joe Collier’s mustard trench) and the knits. Set in perpetual motion on a crisscrossing design of walkways, the line was full of rich colors, with shades of deep blues, reds, and earth tones adding contrast to the soft grays and thick black of the other looks. In an inspired touch, the boots came perched on clear soles, mimicking the look of ice, while the hooded capes referenced traditional fishermen’s garments. Still, for all the nods at that distant island perched in the middle of the North Atlantic, there was something very urban and sophisticated about the whole thing, an ideal wardrobe for looking smart on even the wintriest days.
