Dries Van Noten S/S 14

Dries Van Noten has always been known for his eclectic prints and globetrotting inspirations, so it was no surprise that, in a season that has already bloomed forth in many varieties of sinister florals, the Belgian designer would prove himself a master of the game. For Spring 2014, Van Noten seemed determined to put his blossoms on as many pieces, and in as many varieties, as possible, in a collection that pulsed intensely with his unique sensibilities. There were surf prints and Hawaiian shirts, baroque filigrees and the two lone buds that decorated the breast of Abiah Hostvedt’s trench. The variety was stunning, both in its diversity and in its demonstration of dedicated attention to a single, coherent vision. Van Noten’s use of soft, delicate fabrics gave a subtle twist to his clean shapes, whether in Arthur Gosse’s flowing robe or Jester White’s moiré trousers. The show offered a rich range of textures and processes, all of them combining for a collection that bristled with creative spirit.
