Calvin Klein Men F/W 2013

For years, Italo Zucchelli has managed to perfectly merge traditional American sportswear shapes with cutting-edge futurism for Calvin Klein, and his Fall 2013 collection was no different. Working with a rich palette of black, burgundy, and midnight blue, Zucchelli injected a hint of a military vibe this season, as in Hao Yunxiang’s cargo jacket, or the external side pockets on Simone Nobili’s slim trousers. The future-minded designer also took herringbone and quilting to new heights, adding shimmer and levity to the old-school fabrics. Many of the pieces also had a smooth sheen, but in Zucchelli’s hands the bouncing light seemed a reflection of modernity itself, and not just flash for its own sake. There was also an emphasis on the brand’s characteristic sharp suiting, like Matt Woodhouse’s sleek gray two-tone blazer, perfectly cut and unimpeachably strong. Zucchelli has never been one to shy away from pushing forward into unknown territory, and though he’s sometimes overreached, Fall 2013 hit the mark.
