As such a
recognized icon in the world of beauty, what advice would you have for women
in terms of their approach to beauty in the Zero's?
Iman:
The new rule for Beauty 2000? There is no rule! I don't believe that there
are colours that you should only wear at night or in the Fall. The line between
night and day make-up or between Spring and Fall faces will be blurred. I'd
like to instigate you to wear, whatever turns you on, whenever and wherever.
Make up your own rules.
In the new
make-up range I-Iman, there are so many adventurous shades. So what are your
ideas on future trends this year?
Iman:
Make-up is back in a big way... and colour is the new buzzword. Forget about
the nude look and come out of the dark. Eyes don't have to wear black to look
dangerously sexy. Try smudged and smeared pinks, yellows, burnt oranges, electric
blues and shocking reds. They're hotter than hot. Glitter is out and shimmer
is in. Blush all over, use it as an eye shadow, a lip stain or... as a blush.
There seems
to be a much wider range of models from different ethnic groups than ever
before. Models such as Alek Wek feature in many areas of fashion. So how do
you think this new diversity in fashion affects a company such as yours?
Iman:
My company has always been on the forefront of ethnic diversity. I-Iman Cosmetics
changed or rather expanded the terminology of "women of colour",
not just to be African-Americans but also Hispanic, Asian, and Native American.
I-Iman make-up is an extension of that idea. By being all inclusive, we find
beauty in everyone.
