Prada’s New Groove

September 25th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

If model casting has a Superbowl then it would have to be the Prada show. No show is as watched, critiqued or analyzed as Prada when it comes to casting. Model fans and industry bigwigs alike wait with baited breath to see just who Russell Marsh will pick and when the dust settles everyone gathers around the proverbial water cooler for a bit of Monday morning quarterbacking. Who was the opener? Who closed? Who should have been walking? For the love of god where is Sasha!?!?!

And so on, so forth.

Top row- Lindsey Wixson, Jacquelyn Jablonski, Sharon Kavjian. Bottom row- Lyndsey Scott, Kate Kosushkina, Shu Pei.

This time around the show had no shortage of surprises. If you could tear your eyes away from the hypnotically over the top clear plastic pumps you’d be quick to notice just how many first timers there were. Girls like Valerija Kelava, Mirte Maas, Nicole Hofman and Patricia van der Vliet all made stunning debuts. The talk of the town is of course Lindsey Wixson, whose impish features and perfect walk landed her the coveted girl one slot but Kate Kosushkina‘s ethereal ease closed the light and airy collection with a bang and who better to embody all that is light and breezy than the charming Miss Kosushkina!

Shu Pei and Liu Wen.

In a move that warmed my cold, jaded heart there was also a bit of diversity with Lyndsey Scott, Liu Wen and Shu Pei all walking and looking gorgeous in those Lolita pigtails courtesy of Guido Palau. It is wishful thinking to say that this could be the beginning of a campaign moment but after S/S 09′s blonde overload wouldn’t the ultimate cool move be a Steven Meisel shoot featuring this uber cool trio?

The Dark Night

September 8th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

There is a darkness than underlies the drama of Paolo Roversi‘s latest story for Vogue Italia. Ymre Stiekema, Anna de Rijk, Heidi Mount, Toni Garrn, Rose Cordero, Viktoriya Sosonkina, Jourdan Dunn, Darya Kurovska, Imogen Morris-Clarke, Sigrid Agren and Constance Jablonski star in a series of images that are both fantastical and romantic. The luminous beauty of the finest couture pieces is juxtaposed against a dimly lit garden background and a cluttered pile of chairs but somehow it all comes together perfectly. The pictures are haunting and standout as an especially memorable spin on the couture editorial.

Perfume Posse

July 24th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Fragrance campaigns are a major coup for any girl lucky enough to land one and the latest set of perfume ads to emerge feature the biggest stars of the moment. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shoot perennial favorite, Raquel Zimmermann for Viktor & Rolf‘s Eau Mega. The larger than life ads feature a giant Raquel dominating a golden cityscape. Dior goes for a more traditional route with Edita Vilkeviciute‘s tropic themed Escale à Portofino ads while Prada revamps its S/S Steven Meisel helmed muse campaign with Viktoriya Sosonkina, Anna Jagodzinska, Toni Garrn and Ymre Stiekema. Note the devilish gleam in Anna’s eyes as she aims the atomizer straight for Toni.

Dark Water

July 8th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Prada is always a campaign to watch each season and not just to see what engaging concept Steven Meisel comes up with next. The girls chosen for Prada have a habit of becoming sensations, which makes this season’s selections all the more intriguing. Kendra Spears, Julia Hafstrom and Anna de Rijk join Prada’s signature face Ymre Stiekema for an eerie image that combines cinematic mystery with Prada’s special breed of luxury.

The Elite

March 23rd, 2009 |Posted by Betty

This in from the City of Lights. Though fashion week may be over, Elite Paris continues to enjoy a dazzling season. The current issue of Vogue Paris spotlights a triple feature of their high profile stars, including Eniko Mihalik in a Mario Sorrenti shoot highlighting her chameleon abilities, Malgosia Bela in a lovely Inez and Vinoodh portfolio of her and her son (click here) and current It girl Ymre Stiekema exquisitely photographed in black and white by Patrick Demarchelier (click here). The delightful surprise? Former Gucci girl, Dewi Driegen still displaying the exuberance and allure that attracted Tom Ford to the 3/4 Dutch, 1/4 Indonesian beauty.

A La Ferme

March 23rd, 2009 |Posted by Betty

Carine Roitfeld‘s recent CNN videos garnered much interest internationally but one of our favorite highlights was to see the editorial process live and featured in print in the current April Vogue Paris. While many magazines are debuting “behind the scenes” features, it is rare to have one of the calibre of Vogue Paris and to actually have the editor in chief and a photographer of the status of Patrick Demarchelier explaining how a concept evolves. With Dutch beauty Ymre Stiekema , the video (featured here) shows the work it takes to achieve the final shots. Shot at an agricultural show, the shoot’s goal is to contrast the haute couture clothes with the classic French farm animals. Ymre shows why she’s a current choice among the industry’s top lensmen, gamely breaking an egg, holding a reluctant rooster and emoting the proper placid expressions for the bucolic atmosphere. Our fave moment? When Carine says “We made a casting between the different cows and different lambs, the casting of animals is not easy.” We say the fact that you did is why we adore you Carine!

Future Shock

February 16th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Prada was just the beginning for the radiant Ymre Stiekema. The willowy beauty from the Netherlands makes her way to the pages of W this month in a dreamy editorial shot by Craig McDean. The sci-fi themed editorial gives Ymre ample room to display her posing prowess and signature stare.

Prada Panache

December 19th, 2008 |Posted by Janelle

Prada keeps on evolving. Last season’s campaign with industry standards Linda Evangelista and Patrick Petitjean was all about mature refinement but for S/S 09 the brand shifts gears towards a youthful interpretation of luxury. Enlisting the season’s most prominent fresh faces to portray an elegantly coiffed series of sirens makes for an inspiring visual. Viktoriya Sosonkina, Toni Garrn, Ymre Stiekema, Katrin Thormann, Nimue Smit, Sigrid Agren and Giedre Dukauskaite represent everything Prada stands for. Drawing inspiration from ancient stone reliefs and classical art Meisel creates an enthralling vision. With the first picture giving us just a taste of what is to come, we cannot wait to see what else the maestro has up his sleeves.
