Serene Escape

June 16th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

It may be winter down under, but Will Davidson creates a tropical fantasy for the new issue of Vogue Australia. Amanda Wellsh plays the part of elegant castaway in a selection of looks chosen by Christine Centenera. Heading off he beaten path in Dior and Chloe might not be practical in real life, but the cinematic scope of Davidson’s imagery makes the concept seem ideal. Even when grasping a walking stick, or wading through the ocean waves on the back of a horse Amanda never loses her glamorous edge.

Natural Wonder

April 16th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Sometimes the simplest styles are the very best and in Will Davidson‘s refined story for Vogue Australia, senior fashion editor Christine Centenera creates a pared down look set against a woodland backdrop. Crista Cober‘s lush beauty comes to the forefront as she sports minimal styles from Stella McCartney, Hermès, Céline and Josh Goot. Working with a palette of neutrals and easy going separates like transparent button-down shirts or menswear influenced overcoats Centenera creates a modern wardrobe fit for everywoman. Combining these basic pieces with the serene natural setting and Davidson’s dreamy photographic style shows that even the most uncomplicated look can imbue the wearer with a powerful allure.

Added bonus: Davidson does double duty within the issue shooting this editorial and the impressive cover story of seminal Aussie pop diva, Kylie Minogue who he captures in a grand, romantic style.

Abbey Road

March 20th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Admit it, things just weren’t the same without Abbey Lee Kershaw. The spirited Aussie has been away shooting Mad Max: Fury Road with Hollywood stars Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, but April sees her returning to her high fashion roots. The Gilles Bensimon helmed April cover of Vogue Australia is one of the publication’s best and inside the issue Kershaw is featured in two stories. First up a tribal themed romp by Bensimon that sees the legendary photographer revisiting his signature style as Christine Centenera styles Abbey in an all white wardrobe of designer looks and second Will Davidson‘s dreamy trip take on eveningwear featuring creative direction by cinematic award winners Baz Luhrman & Catherine Martin. Still aching for an Abbey fix? Check her out in the new Saint Laurent Paris eyewear ads looking chic in oversized sunglasses designed and shot by Hedi Slimane.

French Lesson

January 9th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

French chic is always in style, even in Vogue Australia where Will Davidson and Jillian Davison recreate the feel of the look right down to the berets, baguettes and Breton stripes. Drake Burnette is a refined presence in Davidson’s black and white images, posing in the midst of the Eiffel Tower and along the banks of the Seine looking Parisian even though she hails from Austin and has the Texas tattoo to prove it. All and all the editorial provides an elegant tribute to a theme that has inspired for years and will always hold a special place in the hearts of fashion devotees.

Kingdom Hart

December 16th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

It’s always great to see a magazine support homegrown talent and that’s just what you’ll see in Vogue Australia. Aussie beauty Jessica Hart is front and center on the cover and shines in multiple editorials within the issue. Will Davidson‘s sleek cover shot showcases serene side of Hart’s beauty and a seriously elegant Chanel number selected by fashion editors Jillian Davison & Christine Centenera. A second Davidson helmed story features an almost unrecognizable Jessica with short dark hair and leather looks – a complete 180 from how we usually see Jessica.

Swept Away

July 11th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Will Davidson captures a romantic mood in the latest Vogue Australia with a sumptuous story featuring Julia Stegner and actor Eamon Farren. Styled by Jillian Davison and set against a backdrop of crashing waves, the photos explore an intense attraction and some of the season’s most luxurious wares. As always Davidson’s atmospheric imagery captures your attention with its cinematic scope, many of the images feel like stills from a film. As the designer clad heroine Julia looks resplendent and her timeless appeal is put to good use.

Sweetness & Light

March 13th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

The world of beekeeping might seem like an unusual choice of subject matter for a fashion editorial, but in the capable hands of photographer Will Davidson it makes for a compelling and beautiful story. Styled by Jillian Davison and featuring an array of feminine designs from Miu Miu, Rochas, Dior and of course Alexander McQueen, the Vogue Australia images tell a romantic tale with plenty of visual oomph. Models Cassi Van Den Dungen and Lucas Pittaway, look resplendent in Davidson’s images, while the combo of cutting-edge clothes and atmospheric mood make for an especially memorable series.

Double Vision : Alexander Wang

November 15th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

As fashion’s current king of downtown cool, Alexander Wang has perfected a look that is both eye-catching and easy going. It isn’t unusual to see Wang’s wares popping up in fashion glossies month after month, but it is interesting to see how his look is interpreted by a variety of talents. One of last season’s most memorable and popular Wang pieces was the fishnet turtleneck, a statement item that adds a touch a mystery to any ensemble. Most stylists didn’t stray too far from the runway vision of this particular look, but every so often the versatility of this staple was showcased via a well-timed change of pace. With the addition of the equally ubiquitous Jil Sander pink overcoat, or a bit of menswear inspired Paul & Joe, the mood shifts completely. That said, the Wang turtleneck looks just as good all by itself, revealing a touch of come-hither skin or adding another layer of sexy to a pop star’s daring repertoire.
