El Bambi

October 24th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Never underestimate the power of a well placed bit of cartoon magic; each season Riccardo Tisci comes up with at least one Givenchy must have that makes a splash and for the last few months its been all about Bambi. The opening look of the designer’s critically lauded fall collection was a Disney inspired sweatshirt that added touch of twee to the typically hard-edged Givenchy look and instantly became a cult status symbol. The signature piece has been making waves in magazines of late with the Bambi shirt appearing on the cover of Vogue Japan, the newly launched Miss Vogue AustraliaVogue China and Madame Figaro, not to mention inside appearances in i-D Magazine & V Magazine. Add in the fact that this little number has also been spotted on the backs of everyone from Beyoncé Knowles to Carine Roitfeld and you have the makings of a moment.

Double Dose

October 22nd, 2013 |Posted by models.com

The latest work from Tokyo born beauty, Chiharu Okunugi, certainly stands out to us for all the right reasons. In Vogue China’s “Street Leather” by Lachlan Bailey (Paris: Management + Artists, New York: Management + Artists), Chiharu looks sleek and chic in glam pieces and leather ensembles, whereas in Vogue Japan’s “Destiny of Punk” we get to see an edgier side of the model. Chiharu gets a punk-rock makeover in the editorial by David Slijper, pairing together an array of rebellious clothing and accessories. Chiharu delivers consistently flawless work, and her most recent Vogue editorials prove this to be absolutely true.

A New Muse

August 26th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Hedi Slimane.
Melanie Ward.
Gracie Van Gastel.
Vogue China.

Fashion’s most talked about designer presents his latest muse in chic style, within the pages of Vogue China with an editorial focused on youthful cool. With a pared down wardrobe of fresh from the runway babydoll dresses and leather jackets, Grace captures the essence of those 90s style icons Slimane is so fond of. Ward mixes in pieces from Elder Statesman, Versace and Dries van Noten to keep things interesting, but these images are all about the Saint Laurent look.

Neo-Bohemian

June 25th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

The pages of Vogue China serve as a sumptuous showcase for both the beauty of Camilla Akrans‘s (New York: Management + Artists, Paris: Management + Artists) sleek images and the allure of rising star Loulou Robert. Stylist Ludivine Poiblanc‘s (Paris: Management + Artists, New York: Management + Artists) selection of colorful floral patterns from fashion’s very best labels provides an appealing overview of one of the season’s key trends. LouLou wears it all with ease, adding an touch of sensuality to every shot. Add in the gorgeously coifed hair courtesy of Akki Shirakawa and a glossy nude cosmetic look by the legendary Wendy Rowe and you have a story that is perfection.

Skin Deep

June 19th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Who says beige has to be boring? Amy Troost and Alastair McKimm create a compelling story for Vogue China that showcases the best of the season’s taupe, tan and textured wares. Juliane Grüner looks elegant in on-trend pieces from Calvin KleinBelstaff, Jean Paul Gaultier and Céline. The second skin concept comes to life with via a few well placed exotic materials and a series of covetable leather jackets. Troost’s refined photographic style is perfectly suited to this tribute to subtlety, luxury and the timeless appeal of understatement.

Seeing Spots

May 30th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

When Haider Ackermann filled his S/S13 runway with transparent creations emblazoned with black and white dots, it seemed like an unusual move. Polka dots are a fashion standard dating back years, but the diminutive patterns are more often associated with the prim styles of the 1950s than with the kinds of cutting-edge wares favored on Paris’ runways. The designer so known for his innovative use of lush, saturated color was showing another side, taking one of the most uncool of motifs and making it feel new.

In keeping with the current craze for all things graphic, stylists have embraced the versatility of these simple circles, working Ackermann’s creations into a variety of editorials. On occasion the interpretations don’t veer too far from the runway approach (fashion abides by the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ mantra whenever it can) but the excitement comes when the spots are complimented by clashing patterns to create a dynamic visual treat. Whether it is layering in another of Ackermann’s prints from S/S or adding a bold kimono for interest, the real fun lies in the mix which offers stylists an opportunity to show their creativity.
