September Reign

July 30th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

By now we’ve all heard the story about celebrities taking precious magazine cover spots away from models, but this September it appears the tides have turned. After years of stars on the front pages more and more magazines are looking to models for their biggest fashion issues. British Vogue boasts Cara Delevingne looking sleek in Nicolas Ghesquière‘s collection for Louis Vuitton in an image by Mario Testino (Art Partner), while Elle UK enlists a Prada clad Kate Upton for fashion forward shot by Matt Jones. Though the September covers are only just starting to debut you can already see which collections are going to be inecapable for the next few months.  WSJ provides a fetching seventies style image of Daria Werbowy by Josh Olins that also puts Ghesquière’s wares to good use. In keeping with the trend The New York Times’ T Magazine reaches for Prada, sheathing Vanessa Axente in one of the brand’s oversized coats in a strong cover image by Craig McDean.

The Calvin Universe

July 15th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

The labels may be different, but there is a spirt that unites the many lines of the Calvin Klein empire. During campaign season the mega-brand always manages to create a stir and for fall they unveil five new campaigns, distinctive yet unmistakably Calvin. Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott (Art Partner) shoot Calvin Klein Jeans & Underwear enlisting Lara Stone and Matthew Terry to provide the prerequisite sex appeal. The #mycalvins hashtag is emblazoned across Mert & Marcus’ beautiful black and white portraits of the duo and is sure to resonate with the social media obsessed.

For Calvin Klein Collection and Platinum advertising David Sims shoots serene images of CK favorites Vanessa Axente and Clark Bockelman sporting the memorable F/W collections with stylish flair. The collection ads with their striking mountainside backdrop provide an especially beautiful showcase for Sims’ minimal style.

Last but certainly not least, familiar faces Edita Vilkeviciute and Tyson Ballou make a perfect couple in the pared down ads for White Label. Sporting coordinating tweeds and knits and looking cooler than thou in Daniel Jackson‘s shots the duo are ideal Calvin representatives conveying exactly the right amount of urban chic.

The One

July 16th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Less is more and in the world of Calvin Klein that means advertising that embraces simplicity. The line’s latest campaign imagery is all about that elegant fall collection and the refined beauty of Vanessa Axente. Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott in chic black and white, the new ads feel like a continuation of the duo’s stark series from 2011 featuring Lara Stone. Comparisons aside, Vanessa more than holds her own in these shots, conveying a poise far beyond her years and seeming right at home in the role of Calvin campaign star.

Class Acts

April 10th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

When in doubt, go for elegance. The latest ad campaigns eschew gimmicks and rely instead on the kind of classic polish that never goes out of style. Bastion of uptown chic Tiffany & Co. enlists the new generation of top models in a stylish campaign by Michael Thompson that puts those fabulous jewels on superstars Liya Kebede,Liu Wen, Arizona Muse, Karen Elson and Doutzen Kroes. The stunning cast adds a touch of freshness to one of luxury’s oldest names, while Thompson’s graceful shots show the timeless appeal of gemstones.

Prada’s pre-fall shots are every bit as beautiful, but there is a hint of edge in Steven Meisel‘s minimal studio shots. Irene HiemstraAmanda Murphy and Vanessa Axente look pristine in Meisel’s imagery and the pared down collection provides a down to earth, yet wholeheartedly Miuccia take on seasonal dressing. What could be more classic than a whole lot of gingham and a good ol’ fashioned statement bag?

Third Time’s A Charm

March 4th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

With 3 Vogue Italia covers under her belt in under a year, Vanessa Axente is a clear favorite of Steven Meisel. The duo’s collaborations continue to excite and the March VI cover with it’s streamlined fashion imagery is instantly appealing. With Gustav Swedberg appearing alongside Vanessa and looking every bit as beautiful, the cover shoot is a spectacular showcase for both models and those graphic seasonal fashions selected by Marie-Amélie Sauvé.

Editorial Inspiration : Jerry Hall

December 4th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Open up the new Vogue Italia and you’ll see the stunning Vanessa Axente looking amazing in Steven Meisel‘s ultra-chic imagery, but take a closer look and you may get a case of deja vu. Don’t those long blonde waves look familiar, isn’t the outsized eroticism and in your face glamour reminiscent of a time, a place? If you started to hear the Rolling Stones playing the background and got a distinctly 70s feel from the entire endeavor, you’re on the right track. Meisel looks back to the iconic allure of Jerry Hall and the saturated, decadent imagery of the disco era. You’ll see hints of Helmut Newton, Willie Christie, Antonio Lopez and more in Meisel’s images, while Karl Templer transforms Resort pieces into over the top looks fit for Studio 54. With a swipe of Pat McGrath applied red lipstick and a Guido Palau coiffed waves, Vanessa transforms into a latter day Jerry, while Marlon Teixeira provides the manpower.
