Paige Views

February 27th, 2015 |Posted by Janelle

A new model can burst onto the scene in a variety of ways, but now more than ever a strong following on social media can lead to big things in the modeling world. There is no better example of that than rising star Paige Reifler who has both impressive numbers on Instagram and the support of big names like Carine Roitfeld, Bruce Weber, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and Stephen Gan. Making an editorial splash this month Paige appears in in the latest issues of V Magazine, V Man and CR Fashion Book. Showcasing her sensual side while posing wearing little more than a Saint Laurent blanket Paige makes an modern pinup in in Inez & Vinoodh’s portrait. For VMan Paige sports denim cutoffs and a Saint Laurent blazer in Bruce Weber’s naturalistic shots. Finally in CR Paige embodies the spirit of the Bulgari brand for Johnny Dufort as part of a series of Carine helmed fantasy campaigns. Dipped in inky black water and glittering diamonds Paige transforms into a darkly elegant seductress.

But don’t take our word for it, here are a few words from the girl of the moment herself on working with Carine, posing for V and what the energy was like on all three sets.

“V Magazine has been a staple for me since I picked up my first copy years ago. Stephen Gan has mastered combining fashion, music, and culture while keeping V’s innately cool aesthetic. I look up to Stephen tremendously and I feel lucky to know him. It was a dream come true to be featured in the latest issue of V and to shoot with such incredibly talented and iconic photographers, Inez and Vinoodh. The energy on set with Bruce and his team is like I’ve never experienced. I’m so happy I got to work with Bruce and I hope to be able to shoot with him again soon! Shooting V Man with Bruce Weber at his house in Miami felt like a vacation. Carine Roitfelds bold and unique vision behind CR Fashion book is one of a kind. Her creativity is contagious, and to be a part of the latest issue is a thrill.” – Paige Reifler

Blood & Roses

February 23rd, 2015 |Posted by Janelle

Nothing looks quite as arresting in editorial as a Comme des Garçons piece. Rei Kawakubo‘s larger than life creations beg to be photographed and in the pages of the latest V Magazine the designer’s blood & roses inspired collection comes to life in a bold Steven Klein (Art Partner) story starring Karlie Kloss. The dramatic fashions are styled by Patti Wilson (Streeters New York) who uses her expert touch to take Kawakubo’s dresses even further into artistic territory. Klein keeps the focus on Karlie and those unforgettable runway pieces opting for a simple studio shoot that pops off the page.

Pretty in Pink – Male models walk the runway for Sibling S/S15

London’s menswear shows have been in full swing with designers serving up bold looks that have been more daring than ever before. Highlights included a madcap pink showing at Sibling, Christopher Bailey’s dramatically bohemian turn at Burberry and JW Anderson’s streamlined take on 70s style luxe.

Cathy Horyn, the iconic former New York Times fashion critic and one of the most respected voices within the industry resurfaces at The Cut, becoming the publication’s Fashion Editor at Large. The move marks a major coup for web based publications and given The Cut’s acerbic, witty tone should make for some truly memorable collection reviews in the near future.

Though we knew Frida Gianinni‘s exit from Gucci was imminent we didn’t expect it to come quite so soon. Today Gucci confirmed the designer’s early exit, making the move a month earlier than expected and before the Gucci menswear show even hits the runway – could a new successor be announced earlier as well? Only time will tell.

Justin Bieber & Lara Stone by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott (Art Partner) for Calvin Klein

Who is the most talked about male model of the moment? Pop star turned tabloid fixture Justin Bieber takes top honors. Justin Bieber’s fashion moment starts with his underwear & denim campaigns for Calvin Klein and continues with a shirtless turn for Karl Lagerfeld in V Magazine‘s music issue. The pop star has never been shy about showing off his body. If you remember what he did last Fashion Rocks, you won’t be surprise to see the smoking hot ad for Calvin Klein Jeans with Lara Stone.

Joan Didion by Juergen Teller for Celine / Joni Mitchell by Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent

Campaigns aren’t only for young models. For spring, Phoebe Philo invited an unexpected Celine muse- Joan Didion, the famous author of Play It as It Lays. In the Celine campaign, Didion shows off her classic with a black turtleneck and oversize sunglasses. Not to be outdone theSaint Laurent 2015 ad campaign features a talented 70’s singer-songwriter- Joni Mitchell for the latest in Hedi Slimane‘s musician series.

Cara Delevingne never stops multitasking; modeling, acting, singing and now editing. Cara gets her new title, Fashion Editor for Love Magazine. We all love her funny face on Instagram but what her writing style will be? Humorous or just classic? Can’t wait to see it!

Pure Couture

December 11th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

When we think of couture we often think of the pomp and circumstance that can accompany those gilded gowns, but V Magazine offers an alternative to the frou frou with a pared down couture story that’s all about the simple beauty of well made clothes. Amanda Murphy stars in Benjamin Alexander Huseby‘s editorial in the latest issue, sporting elegant pieces from Dior, Atelier Versace and Valentino in soulful black and white images. Jodie Barnes provides the styling wizardry, mixing in combat boots and long gloves for an added touch of chic.

Private Resort

November 13th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Ryan McGinley never fails to capture a candid side of his subjects and for his latest story in V Magazine McGinley brings out Saskia de Brauw‘s humor and lightness. The energetic images styled by Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele depict Saskia exploring an expansive garden as she sports the latest wares direct from the resort collections. With flowers in her hair and a short blonde bob, Saskia pulls of nymph-chic with a little help from beauty maestros  Jimmy Paul and Serge Hodonou. The colorful, floral filled images make for an effervescent editorial that never takes itself too seriously and lets Saskia show yet another side of her versatile persona.

The Halloween Edit

October 31st, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Fashion has always held Halloween in a special esteem. Of all the holidays it allows for the most outlandish changes and transformations which means it is right up fashion’s alley. As such there are countless editorials that serve to inspire a bit of seasonal cheer, or at least serve as appropriate fodder for Halloween costumes. Take a look back at 10 editorials that make us think of all-Hallows eve and share your favorite spooky or kooky fashion story in the comments.

01. Ph. Tim Walker
Publication: Harper’s Bazaar
Who better to look to on Halloween than legendary filmmaker (and master of the spooky story) Tim Burton? Bazaar’s fashion trip through Burton’s filmography is a creepy classic.

Halloween3

02. Ph. Jean-Francois Campos
Publication: Flair
Campos’ Nosferatu-esque zombies might not be as scary as the characters on The Walking Dead but it made for a great spooky editorial.

Halloween1H5

03. Ph. Steven Klein (Art Partner)
Publication: Candy Magazine
There are quite a few Steven Klein stories that could be considered Halloween ready, but his fantastical male pregnancy saga for Candy is probably the most outlandish.

Halloween5

04. Ph. Sofia Sanchez and Mauro Mongiello
Publication: Numéro
Sofia & Mauro took inspiration from Divine for this out there story that captures all the kitschy goodness of John Waters’ over the top film.

Halloween1

05. Ph. Steven Meisel
Publication: American Vogue
The way in which each and every model on this story took on a classic rock persona was downright inspirational – Omhyra as Prince, Karolina Kurkova as Marilyn Manson, Sophie Dahl as Debbie Harry – the work by Pat McGrathGrace Coddington and Orlando Pita on this story was nothing short of iconic.

Halloween2

06. Ph. Peter Lindbergh
Publication: Vogue Paris
Some of fashion’s own characters make for incredible costumes, case in point Sasha P morphing into John Galliano for Vogue Paris.

Halloween6

07. Ph. Thomas Lagrange (Total Management)
Publication: Vogue Japan
You can’t have a Halloween roundup without a little vampirism and LaGrange’s slick beauty story puts a chic twist on bloodsucking.

Halloween1H6

08. Ph. Steven Meisel
Publication: Vogue Italia
The inspiration for Meisel’s ‘The Discipline of Fashion’ was Ethel Granger, a woman who tightlaced for years in order to achieve a 13 inch waist! You don’t need to go that far to get into the story or the incredible, unnerving visuals.

Halloween1H1

09. Ph. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin
Publication: V Magazine
A before and after of epic proportions where Eniko, Anja and Raquel are transformed via the use of Paddy Hartley’s transparent face masks. The clear plastic and cutouts distort the wearers face by changing its proportions in ways that range from beautiful to grotesque.

Halloween1H2

10. Ph. Craig McDean
Publication: American Vogue
Before everyone was running out to grab their Avengers costume, Coco Rocha was playing fashion superhero in the pages of Vogue with this memorable McDean story.

The Elegant Universe

May 23rd, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Though the Madonna / Katy Perry coverstory is sure to get the bulk of the attention, the most beautiful editorial in the latest V Magazine belongs to Nick Knight and Lady Amanda Harlech. In ‘The Elegant Universe’ Knight and Harlech utilize the best in Haute Couture to create a fantastical drama involving parallel dimensions, Mandelbrot‘s fractal geometry and Knight’s signature trippy visuals. Model (and mathematician) Alexia Wight is a striking presence in designs from Chanel, Dior and Atelier Versace, shifting in and out of focus as 2D and 3D converge.
