Pump Up the Volume

April 30th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

The season’s voluminous proportions are brought to life in the pages of V Magazine with this striking editorial by Kacper Kasprzyk featuring a host of signature pieces selected by stylist, Tom Van Dorpe. (Paris: Management + Artists, New York: Management + Artists). Those larger than life Céline belts, the sculptural Calvin Klein coats, even a hint of well placed Azzedine Alaïa for good measure – all of pre-fall’s best offerings are on display. With her piercing gaze and incredible cheekbones, rising star Sam Rollinson seems made for Kasprzyk’s stark photography and these high drama ensembles.

Double Vision: Clear Winner

March 27th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Transparency was all over the S/S13 runways and as the season draws closer it seems fitting to explore one of its dominant trends. The house whose designs exemplified the look was VALENTINO, where designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli showed a variety of pieces that utilized transparency expertly, revealing skin but keeping the demure sophistication the brand has become known for. Whether they were dazzling with delicate embroidery, or creating a sublime showcase for the body via cutouts, the duo set the standard for diaphanous dressing.

One piece in particular took the look to its logical endpoint and dazzled with its whimsical cheekiness. The PVC trenchcoat embellished with the line’s signature rockstuds has become an editorial favorite, with stylists providing their own take on the Valentino look. The trench lends itself to a myriad of different interpretations and stylists did not disappoint, creating a variety of looks that range from sensual, to avant-garde. When a garment can go from the all out sexy of Missy Rayder‘s powerful image in Numero, to the easy cool on the back of Angela Lindvall it more than proves its versatility.

This Charming Man

November 12th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Where do we begin with Joseph Dolce, the VMan/Ford Models contest winner with the fashionable name and unforgettable face. Considering the heights reached by former V Man winners – campaigns, covers, catwalk struts – it’s safe to say we’ve got high expectations for Mr. Dolce. VMan introduces him to the world via a special video by CyCy Sanders, that provides an animated glimpse into the surreal life of a male model. Inside the magazine, Philippe Vogelenzang and Tom Van Dorpe (Paris: Management + Artists, New York: Management + Artists) give a different take on things, with their down to earth, boy next door editorial, while Mario Sorrenti and Robbie Spencer take all the finalists into extreme territory with a sleek menswear story.

First Look: V’s American Beauties

April 18th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

As perfecters of the themed glossy, V Magazine never fails to choose a winning subject to center its issues around. Their latest edition is all about Summer Americana, a concept that for most people, conjures images of backyard barbecues and July 4th festivities. As blissfully nostalgic as that all sounds, there is another side to it – namely the influence of stylish Americans on the current fashion scene. The designers, the editors and of course the models who have shaped our definition of chic.

This all comes together in Sharif Hamza‘s simple and beautiful pre-fall shoot. Featuring looks from New York’s premier labels, the story covers everything from iconic brands like Calvin KleinRalph Lauren and Marc Jacobs to current it-labels like Altuzarra, all in shades of icy white selected by Tom Van Dorpe. Two generations of American top models wear the pieces perfectly and the whole crew from current sensations Karlie KlossDree HemingwayArizona Muse, to outright legends Carol AltChristie Brinkley and Elaine Irwin, looks phenomenal.
