Autumn Leaves

October 30th, 2014 |Posted by jonathanshia

The chill is in the air, and the holidays are on their way, as is made abundantly clear by the October/November issue of American menswear magazine Essential Homme, out this week. Starting with rapper Theophilus London’s cover story shot by Kevin Sinclair (See Management) and styled by Terry Lu, the issue offers a wealth of cozy options as fall turns into winter. Matthew Bell and Florian Luger bring a gritty edge to the season’s military-inspired and industrial pieces in a Markus Ziegler feature, while Victor Norlander demonstrates some urban flair. Jamie Wise and Derek Jaeschke star in a West-Coast take on cooler weather, as Thorben Gartner breathes life into the perennial camel trend and Harvey James takes on houndstooth and high-tech dressing. Interviews with Brunello Cucinelli and the designers behind Rag & Bone, Jimmy Choo, and Isaora help flesh things out, leading up to a handy gift guide to close out the issue. Only fifty-five shopping days left until Christmas!

Essentially Exciting

August 14th, 2014 |Posted by jonathanshia

Fresh off an eyecatching redesign, American menswear journal Essential Homme gets a head start on Fall with its new August/September issue, out this week. A grown-up Daniel Radcliffe stares out from the front cover, and the issue is packed with enticing styles for the cold days to come, kicked off by a collections story featuring iconic brands from Louis Vuitton and Hermès to Dior Homme and Lanvin. Designer interviews with Gucci’s Frida Giannini, Gieves & Hawkes’ Jason Basmajian, and rising star Patrik Ervell add some heft, interspersed with a variety of visions for Fall 2014. Mark Cox takes on smooth turtlenecks in an Eighties-inspired story, while the three finalists from the magazine’s casting search with Wilhelmina are dressed up in denim. Philip Witts and Rasmus Hååg—themselves finalists from last year’s VMAN/Ford Models Model Search—are sleek in an all-HUGO story, and Alexander Ferrario and Misa Patinszki take on some of the season’s more daring looks in an autumnal feature. New faces Nick Shaw and McClain Driver, shine in 2 other graphic editorials. Covering everything from sleek suiting to chunky Nineties creepers, the latest Essential Homme proves to be the ultimate resource for the season ahead.

New Homme

June 7th, 2014 |Posted by jonathanshia

In the latest issue of upstart American menswear magazine Essential Homme, editor-in-chief Terry Lu offers up a note of explanation: “The essentials of great fashion are a combination of remaining constant while continuing to change.” To that end, the June/July issue comes with a fresh redesign, from a sharp, sleek new logo to an innovative editorial structure mixing news items with fashion features. Janis Ancens helps kick off the new vision, starring in the summer-ready cover story, shot by Sebastian Sabal-Bruce on a glowing seashore. American Ballet Theater principal Roberto Bollé is captured by AP Kim in his role as the latest brand ambassador for Dolce & Gabbana, and Bruce Pask discusses his plans as the men’s fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman. The other rich editorials offer a celebration of Louis Vuitton’s all-American Spring collection and the season’s most modern sportswear and sexiest swimsuits. The issue closes with a look ahead at Pre-Fall, with desirable designs pointing the way forward.
