Bits & Bytes: Ghost World

May 10th, 2012 |Posted by Betty

We’re really enjoying Stevie Dance‘s new shopping site SHOP GHOST. Here’s the lovely Hannah Holman on Marc Jacobs, her favorite store in New York and her rings of choice at the moment.

Vogue and a slew of industry heavyweights like Tomas Meier, Jack Pierson, Doug Lloyd and Stewart Shining are looking for the next bright young photographer. The winner gets $10,000, a mentorship from Management Artists and a Red Epic-X camera. Get all the details here.

Here’s an insider’s view of the under-age factor for models by former Vogue bookings editor and model agent, Trudi Tapscott.

Here’s another reason models that aren’t emotionally ready for the rigors of the industry should not be allowed to work. The dangers of being a vulnerable young woman is highlighted in the Model Alliance’s article on the death of a model, seen from the perspective of her former roommate.

Read Ponyryder’s interview with current Vogue Italia cover girl Chrystal Copland.

Speaking of Vogue Italia, their sister site, Vogue Italia Curvy features Muse Models’ new plus size division.

“I saw beautiful young people who didn’t make it in that industry just because their look didn’t happen to be the look of the moment. I knew this wasn’t going to be a lasting, secure place to earn my income”

Who remembers Kathy Ireland, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model of the 80′s? Since then she’s quietly built a 2 BILLION dollar empire along with being a major philanthropist. A fascinating and inspirational read.

Oyster Bar

Oyster‘s latest issue has music on the mind and as always the magazine marches to the beat of its own drum. The smiley face rhinestones attached to Anais Pouliot‘s forehead on the cover, get you ready for an issue that makes you grin from cover to cover. Whether it is actress / musician / Balenciaga muse Charlotte Gainsbourg posing for photos on the floor of her living room, or Tatiana Cotliar as a screaming Beatles fan, the imagery is upbeat, beautiful and perfectly suited to the musical theme.

Serpent’s Kiss

December 12th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

The latest edition of Oyster Magazine features the dangerous curves of Daisy Lowe and a slithering serpent twisting its way around her body. The imagery is classic, a beautiful woman as the ultimate temptation, a motif we’ve seen in everything from renaissance paintings to Avedon portraits, but Will Davidson makes it feel fresh. Focusing on the slinky selection of Stella McCartneyLouis Vuitton & Azzedine Alaia chosen by Stevie Dance and Daisy’s sixties chic look, Davidson crafts a story that is stark yet sensual.
