Platinum Plus

March 11th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Sølve Sundsbø is known for his surreal photographs so it is no surprise to see him bring a touch of the otherworldly to Vogue China. Enlisting platinum blondes Melissa Tammerijn and Shu Pei for an off kilter story styled by Marie Chaix, Sundsbø showcases a wild clash of color, texture and pattern. Melissa and Shu strike languid poses and look elegantly undone in strong looks by Proenza Shouler and Prada enhanced by Lisa Houghton‘s shimmering makeup; the individual elements of the story combine to create an edit that is truly beautiful.

Step It Up!

February 28th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Jerry Hall by Sølve Sundsbø

Fashion and fun are two words that should go together, yet most magazines fail to realize it and that is where Ponystep comes in. Launching during Paris fashion week, the biannual aims to bring the glee back to the pages of magazines where it belongs! Editor in chief Richard Mortimer launched the publication as a website two years ago, but March brings their first print edition. With contributors ranging from Solve Sundsbo, Dan Jackson, Ben Weller, Juergen Teller, Julie Verhoeven and Tim Blanks, you can see why we’re very excited for this one! MDC spoke to Ponystep fashion director, Phoebe Arnold, for a glimpse of all the magazine has to offer.

Daniel Jackson

MDC: How long has ponystep been around and what issue is this?

This is the first issue of Ponystep in print. Ponystep started as an online magazine nearly three years ago, though we haven’t done anything on it for the last six months, we’ve been too busy working on this issue! The website will be relaunching imminently though…

Terry Tsiolis

MDC: Where did the name come from?

It’s a very long and drunken story. It all started out as a bit of a joke and we’ve been stuck with it ever since! It’s quite good though, don’t you think?

Jeneil Williams by Ben Weller

MDC: Why did you choose the models for this cover?

It’s the inspiration issue, and both Kylie Minogue and Jerry Hall are completely inspirational. Actually that’s just an excuse, it was sheer self-indulgence, we just love them.

Hannelore Knuts by Paul Wetherell

MDC: What do you hope to offer that sets you apart from other mags?

We want to make fashion fun again. It’s uncompromising, but still accessible to everybody.

Dreamscape

February 3rd, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Sølve Sundsbø creates a dreamy world for Vogue Italia in an editorial filled with ethereal imagery and lacy outfits. Shot in New Orleans, the story features ladylike styling by Patti Wilson and a host of creative floral headdresses. Melissa Tammerijn‘s otherworldly look is perfect for these images, whether she’s lounging in a stone chair, or posing with a look of rapture, Melissa seems like something out of a fairytale.

Seeing Double

December 2nd, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Sølve Sundsbø is a master of slick futurism and he brings his signature touch to the pages of Interview with a deceptively simple story. Ludivine Poiblanc styles Anais Mali and Melodie Monrose in glamorous pieces that are feminine yet dramatic. The combination of restrained color palate, choice pieces from the Spring collections and sensual poses from Anais and Melodie makes for an engaging and memorable tale.

A stunning and effective editorial that takes Emily’s innate sensuality and brings it to the forefront; stylist Franck Benhamou outdoes himself with a selection of revealing metallic pieces that enhance both the story and the model to create a look that is perfection.

Brazilian boy watch. Mauricio is 18 and looks like a young movie star. Jayme looks (in the words of VGL) like a young Matt Dillon meets JFK Jr. Hotness.

Elite New York‘s posted pics of their top models as babies. Too cute.  I think we all know which one is Damaris, though.

Did you know there’s another fabulous Hamish in the biz? The VS extravaganza we just witnessed was directed by Hamish Hamilton who by the way is at the helm of the 2010 Academy Awards ceremony as well as recently directing the MTV Video Music Awards.
