Double Vision: Clear Winner

March 27th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Transparency was all over the S/S13 runways and as the season draws closer it seems fitting to explore one of its dominant trends. The house whose designs exemplified the look was VALENTINO, where designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli showed a variety of pieces that utilized transparency expertly, revealing skin but keeping the demure sophistication the brand has become known for. Whether they were dazzling with delicate embroidery, or creating a sublime showcase for the body via cutouts, the duo set the standard for diaphanous dressing.

One piece in particular took the look to its logical endpoint and dazzled with its whimsical cheekiness. The PVC trenchcoat embellished with the line’s signature rockstuds has become an editorial favorite, with stylists providing their own take on the Valentino look. The trench lends itself to a myriad of different interpretations and stylists did not disappoint, creating a variety of looks that range from sensual, to avant-garde. When a garment can go from the all out sexy of Missy Rayder‘s powerful image in Numero, to the easy cool on the back of Angela Lindvall it more than proves its versatility.

Coquettish

August 15th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Vogue Paris takes Joan Smalls and Hailey Clauson into coquettish territory in a lovely new story by Josh Olins. Wearing elegant pieces chosen by Veronique Didry, Joan and Hailey shine in polka-dots, leopard prints and a series of black berets. Looking carefree and seductive, the duo walk matching pooches through the streets and pout while lounging on the grass in Celine and David Yurman. Life is just a day in the park for these beauties and for anyone who says different, Joan has a few choice gestures for them.

A Cut Above

Vogue Italia‘s theme for the month is versatility and what better platform than a beauty story to showcase a model’s skill for transformation. Kirsi Pyrhonen sports a variety of looks in Josh Olins story, from boy short, to retro bouffant in shades of brown, blonde and firecracker red: the outlandish dos by Shon look phenomenal and so does Kirsi.

You can never have enough male models looking suave, thankfully VMan understands that. Not only are there two phenomenal new faces on the cover of the mag’s Archetypes issue, inside you’ll find all your favorites like Salieu Jalloh, Clement Chabernaud, Lenz von Johnston, Harry Goodwins, Paul Boche and Jacob Coupe in a gorgeous, mystery themed story by Josh Olins. With a lineup of fall’s best capes, trenches, jackets and coats, selected by Clare Richardson the story brings out the stylish sleuth in each of these charmers.

Baby Love

July 1st, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Has Josh Olins formed the perfect girl group for V Magazine? Wang Xiao, Rila Fukushima and Xiao Wen Ju, look absolutely lovely playing a modern day version of the 1960s supergroups like The Supremes and Shirelles in this cheeky story from V72. Dressed in pre-fall’s grooviest pieces from Stella McCartney, Balenciaga and Celine – selected by stylist Jay Massacret, the girls look like they’ve got the whole retro thing down pat. Maki Ryoke and Shon provide the ladies with the prerequisite winged liner and bouffant hairstyles, but the attitude is all their own. If these girls can carry a tune, the music world better watch out!

In A Daze

May 16th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Ben Toms shoots a colorful and kinetic story for Dazed & Confused featuring girl of the moment, Saskia de Brauw. The out of sight styling by Jacob K, mixes print and pattern for a fresh spin on some of the season’s popular pieces, while hair and makeup by Shon and Hiromi Ueda, add to the overall feeling of off-kilter cool. We can’t help but love Saskia in this and those studded flats that feature prominently.
