Bits and Bytes: Arthur Arrives

September 1st, 2009 |Posted by Betty

Arthur Sales/EP Models Brazil. Photos by Cristiano Madureira, courtesy of Made In Brazil.
Arriving this week is the amazing Arthur Sales from Recife, Brazil. Made in Brazil’s Juliano who has been tracking him since Arthur walked the DSquared show back in June, calls him one of the best Brazilian kids in a long time. Onset he is apparently like Caroline Trentini reincarnated as a guy. For more pics, click here. (with Elite Milan)

Dynamic duo: Marc Jacobs and Juergen Teller; Interview reviews the Marc Jacobs advertising book and for more Juergen fans, Cathyn Horyn talks to Juergen Teller.

Watch Karl Lagerfeld shoot Baptiste Giabiconi for Purple Fashion, with a giraffe and what looks like his cell phone. See some of his editorial here.

More Baptiste news, Naomi Campbell is envious of him!!

Here’s video of Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman from the i-D shoot. They talk about the pressures of being an ethnic model in this industry. The video is amazing, watch the girls work it, i-D’s signature winks and all, while Edward Enninful talks about the beauties.

More MTA’s (model turned actor). This time, it’s a male model, Trevor Donovan, who has shot D&G with Steven Klein and A&F with Bruce Weber and is on the next 90210.

WWD calls it the return of the “himbo” but mistakenly calls it a Numero shoot by Karl Lagerfeld, when it REALLY should be Lara Stone and the boys’ DSquared campaign by Mert and Marcus… Hmph, if they need help with boys they can certainly call us.. We know all the top males there is to know.

Supreme’s showcards reverberate down in Australia.

Mariano Vivanco shoots Megan Fox for Wonderland Magazine. She’s one of the few actresses that look like they could have been a model, especially in this moody shoot. See pics and behind the scenes video.

September’s Vogue Italia editorial by Steven Meisel has re-energized and re-invigorated me in a way that no editorial has done in a long time. The messiness, the fun, the contorted faces, the in your face energy is completely exuberant and what we need during these dour times. Vive la revolution!
For the entire ed, scanned by the lovely Diciassette, see Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

New Edition

July 20th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

While Vogue Paris‘ massive 65 page Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin editorial is heavy on tried and true favorites like Shalom Harlow and Raquel Zimmermann, the most exciting portions of the story involve girls who are making their Vogue Paris debut. Inez & Vinoodh bring out something different in each girl – Regina Feoktistova looks lady like in Ferre. Sessilee Lopez brings her signature dramatic flair to her pictures while Ranya Mordanova is avant garde in rainbow colored face paint.  Dree Hemingway bares all in a simple black and white picture and Elsa Sylvan is the ideal Chloe girl in her over the knee boots. Last but certainly not least, Tao Okamoto adds an edge to Giorgio Armani’s signature suits.

Faded Glory

June 10th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Sessilee Lopez, shines bright for Vogue Italia. Tom Munro uses a washed out color palate and a vacant garage as a backdrop but even the grim setting and hazy lighting can’t hide Sessilee’s unique charms. Posing in a platinum wig and a series of eclectic hats, Sessilee is captivating but does the hazy and faded look of the pictures make it difficult to take in beauty? Tell us what you think.

Retro Glam

May 14th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Sessilee Lopez is known for her ability to pull off the most dramatic runway looks with aplomb but every now and then it is nice to see her softer side. Alexi Lubomirski channels the glamorous photographic style of Slim Aarons as he shoots Sessilee looking very posh for the pages of Harpers Bazaar. The colorful editorial highlights Sessilee’s grace and looks appealingly retro.

Erotica, Romance

April 28th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

There is something truly haunting about Daniel Jackson‘s Acne Paper portfolio of sensual faces. We teased you with a preview of Linda Vojtova‘s seductive shot but the whole story is just as good. Iris Strubegger, Sessilee Lopez, Anne Vyalitsyna, Adam Lundberg, Oraine Barrett, Diana Dondoe, Missy Rayder, Liu Wen, Alyssa Miller and Marina Perez each capture the right mix of refinement and carnality while Jackson’s dramatic use of lighting and color take the story to that next level. Many fashion stories attempt the erotic but few move beyond stereotypical “sexy” pictures and towards a deeper reflection on just what is desirable.

Leaders of the Pack

March 17th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Harper’s Bazaar picks its modeling dream team with a little help from Peter Lindbergh. The April issue pays tribute to some of the industry’s foremost faces with Magdalena Frackowiak Sigrid Agren, Sessilee Lopez, Heidi Mount & Liu Wen each appearing within the portfolio of top models. Looking edgy in black leather and matching headbands the girls look every bit the trendsetting fashion forces.
