First Look: METAL

April 22nd, 2016 |Posted by steven.yatsko

For its 10 year anniversary METAL Magazine shows no signs of showing age in its present-day appeal. The independent publication’s 35th issue celebrates the birthday by highlighting the young and the rising. Its double covers feature two painterly models of the moment Cierra Skye and Varya Shutova, photographed simply by Maurizio Bavutti. Inside, the editorials operate Metal’s signature alternative fashion frequency with a medley of slick visuals: Markus Pritzi quietly captures rosy-cheeked youth, Wai Lin Tse gets inspired by Aniek Klapwijk’s rare features and Raffaele Cariou theatrically plays with light and shadow. Take an exclusive look inside the issue before it hits stands.

First Look: At Large’s Fifth Issue

April 20th, 2016 |Posted by jonathan

For their fifth issue, menswear magazine At Large Magazine keeps to their promise to offer a new perspective on the world with a far-reaching exploration of all the possibilities of the new season. Actors Jack Huston and Travis Fimmel take two of the covers, while Kit Butler and Lucky Blue Smith each get their own, along with a fifth by the artist Cali Thornhill DeWitt. Butler’s cover comes from a Louis Vuitton special by Bjorn Iooss and Matthew Marden, who also capture fencer and model Race Imboden as he prepares to compete in the Rio Olympics this summer. Smith takes in the American desert shot by Randall Mesdon and styled by Julie Ragolia, and Carter Smith and Paul Sinclaire find Jesse Shannon and Ryan Keating on a rocky, windswept coast in their cinematic feature. A forty-page portfolio rounds up Los Angeles’s most exciting young artists, and Albert Watson and Paul Sinclaire offer an unconventional look at suiting, starring Francisco Lachowski, Presley Gerber, Nathaniel Visser, Ryan Frederick, and others. Philippe Vogelenzang and Julie Ragolia round up a new generation of rugby talent, and UFC fighter Alan Jouban takes a motorcycle ride for Giampaolo Sgura and Miguel Arnau.

First Look: ODDA’s Tenth Issue

February 23rd, 2016 |Posted by jonathan

For its tenth issue, ODDA Magazine offers up a tribute—or, rather, per the theme, “Tributes”—to what the editor-in-chief David Martin calls the “defining subcultures of contemporary society” in his editor’s letter. The thick new edition, out today, celebrates a wide range of facets of modern culture, from pop and eroticism to androgyny and romantic decadence, and asks how each plays out in the season’s designs. Two of the six covers celebrate the legendary Joan Collins and Helena Christensen, while Rick Owens muse Michele Lamy takes a third, and each is interviewed within about her life and her art. Lindsey Wixson and Yuri Pleskun get intimate for the camera of Michael Donovan, and Rankin (Camilla Lowther Management) and Lola Chatterton take on gender bending with a lot of sparkle. The issue explores androgyny from both sides, with Rhiannon McConnell in menswear by Rebekah Campbell and Martin, and Liam Little in womenswear by Wish Thanasarakhan. Duy Vo and Alba Melendo offer a tour through the whimsical archives of Viktor & Rolf, and Sita Abellan goes full-out Pop for a Moschino special by Anthony Arquier. Piero Mendez finds himself surrounded by shag wallpaper in featured devoted to kitsch, and Lucas Ucedo and Benjamin Knapp offer a contemporary take on the cowboy look in the section celebrating American culture.

Numéro Versus Nature

December 2nd, 2015 |Posted by steven.yatsko

Tucked inside Numéro latest issue, Txema Yeste offers us rich imagery starring a perfectly posed Amilna Estevao, who is not to be outdone by the sweeping landscape. The editorial is an impressive envisioning of power, color and poise all unified by Yeste’s eye and the styling work of Elizabeth Sulcer. Not much was needed to make Amilna shine, but beauty team Olivier Lebrun and Victor Alvarez brought out her best. See a preview of the story below.

So METAL

October 21st, 2015 |Posted by steven.yatsko

For it’s 34th issue,  METAL Magazine evokes and channels the idea of “Beautiful Obsessions” into its soft-hued pages and avoids the predictable–offering up a fresh show and tell of visuals. Three covers, featuring fragile stares by each of its stars, Luka van der VekenHari Nef and Julia Leineweber, bind the collection of editorials, prefaced by an editor’s statement, “As the issue started shaping itself, we realized it was an issue about beauty. In other words, about how we seek for beauty in those obsessions that keep chasing us along our lifetime.” Inside Coco Capitan photographs Gaby Loader & Sasha Baldina with her signature idiosyncratic eye, dressed in red tracksuits courtesy of Anna Pesonen, while Julia Leineweber shimmers, bedecked with glitter and sequin in her story by Raffaele Cariou and Martina Lew quietly models in peculiar pastels styled by Santi Rodriguez and shot by Jonas Lindstrom. See what else below.

Essential Homme Celebrates a Half Decade

September 22nd, 2015 |Posted by jonathan

Most five-year-olds would be content with little more than an ice-cream cake and a handful of balloons, but not Essential Homme. The menswear magazine celebrates half a decade with five sharp covers for their August/September issue, out now, featuring actors Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, and Shiloh Fernandez, filmmaker Xavier Dolan, and singer Future, all of them men whose flourishing careers point to promising futures. Each cover subject sits for an enlightening shoot and profile within, as do Hermès’ Véronique Nichanian and Steven Kolb, head of the CFDA, who reflects on the inaugural New York Fashion Week Men’s just past. Roberto Sipos embodies the trends of the season, while the military look gets a special focus courtesy of a passel of powerful faces like Serge Rigvava, Ryan Keating, and Ton Heukels. Taylor Hill covers Harper’s Bazaar

September 18th, 2015 |Posted by Irene Ojo-Felix

Model Taylor Hill has had an outstanding year what with her numerous editorial appearances, a bevy of runway jaunts, and a new Victoria’s Secret contract solidified. Her latest cover with Harper’s Bazaar Germany shows the All-American stunner pared-down, sultry, and glamorous in nothing but a cozy sweater and glowing skin courtesy of photographer, Terry Tsiolis and fashion editor, Kerstin Schneider. Beauty team Rolando Beauchamp and Frankie Boyd create perfection with cascading ringlets and gilded smoky eyes, highlighted skin, and pinkish lips. The October cover highlights the doe-eyed, bushy-browed beauty’s alluring appeal and is another milestone in her already stellar career.

Iman Covers Schön

September 17th, 2015 |Posted by steven.yatsko

Gleaming on the cover of Schön Magazine‘s Issue 29 is the legendary Iman Abdulmajid. The striking capture is by the notable, Italian lensman Tiziano Magni who envisions Iman statuesque and silvery.  Together, the two are a recipe for timeless glamour. To help evoke the stately style of a classic beauty, Jenke Tailly mixes luxury silhouettes with single textures, while beauty team Max Pinnell and Porsche Cooper go with a simple short cut, smokey eyes and a bordeux-red lip to highlight Iman’s already flawless features.
