Relative Risk (Updated)

August 30th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Sebastian Faena presents real life mother and son Lynn Koester and Paolo Anchisi in a fascinating story for VMan. The bond between mother and son is one of the strongest and most complex dynamics, but seeing it conveyed in a fashion editorial is a rare thing, especially when the story is less than straightforward. Faena’s pictures are vivid, but they leave a great deal to the imagination of the viewer – is this story more Sons & Lovers or is it veering into Ma Mere territory? Only Faena knows for sure. Regardless of the subtext, Lynn and Paolo both know how to captivate in front of the camera and their striking resemblance makes for memorable shots. Be sure to see the full story when VMan drops September 9th.

UPDATE: This just in, a letter from the V Man Editors: This is a fantasy tale from VMAN’s Age issue. It marks Lynne Koester’s return in front of the camera after not setting foot inside a studio for 10 years. There is nothing more illustrative about age than a mother and son. It is also the first time Lynne is shot with her rising star son Paolo Anchisi.

Imagine Lynne in a film where she plays a burlesque stripper. (Lynne is NOT the blonde woman who plays another stripper in one of the pictures). There is no hidden subtext. Paolo has a girlfriend (see below, played by Yenny from Ford) and he goes to visit his mother at work at the Vaudeville theatre. It is a sweet and sentimental tale that’s much more easily appreciated when one views the full story.

V Va Voom!

June 17th, 2010 |Posted by wayne

Sebastian Faena meets the legendary Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele in the next issue of V (No. 66!) and the result is a hot, pop-driven tabloid tinged 12 page fashion story that is so much fun it practically vibrates on the page. Celebrating the timely Argentinian concept of “botineras” or footballer’s wives (just in time for the World Cup), the gorgeous cast includes Eniko Mihalik, Dree Hemingway, Simon Nessman, Constance Jablonski, Alessandra Ambrosio, Maryna Linchuk, Martin Landgreve and Jacques Naude. We love the way photography, styling and graphic design all combine to sing the same sexy tune!

Given the strength of her editorial appeal, Dafne is sure to become a go to girl for any story in need of excitement; Faena makes the most of Dafne’s talents and produces some of his most memorable shots to date. Coupling

April 21st, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Sebastian Faena presents an unexpectedly subdued story for VMan. Meghan Collison, Sean O’Pry, Siri Tollerod and Christian Brylle, cast by Andrew Weir, star as two well dressed couples in Faena’s 60s inspired studio edit. Both pairings are unexpected but work surprisingly well together – who knew Meghan and Sean would look so good together? Mattias Karlsson‘s impeccable styling keeps the couples coordinated and the sky high beehives by Holli Smith add to the retro feel.

Bits & Bytes: The Face

March 19th, 2010 |Posted by Betty

To go along with our Kate Moss post on her enduring beauty, is the editorial on Sean O’Pry by David Sims. His perfect face is near legendary at this point which is perfect for the Ralph Lauren American heroes story boldly styled by Beat Bolliger. (pic courtesy of VNY, more pics see here)
——————————————————————————-
Funny. Fashion Week Daily talks about fashion people who don’t “own” their own name.

Photographer Magnus Unnar talks to Interview Magazine

Karl Lagerfeld is alternately supremely witty/insightful and so out of touch in this Vice interview. That’s what makes him Kaiser Karl and why we’re always fascinated. You’ll also see how handsome he was (with a still shot of Karl in an Andy Warhol flick).

Swide interviews Maurilio Carnino for MTC Casting about the casting business. He talks about that infamous Donna Karan show where the lights fell on the audienc. We adore his new site for real people, A Streetcat named Desire.

The gorgeous Teresa Lourenco who we ran into last night, looks amazing as a pregnant mommy.

Remember the D&G supermodel fragrance ad with Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Tyson Ballou, etc? The Brazilian face in that ad Fernando Fernandes got into a tragic car crash and is paralyzed from the waist down. Look what he’s doing now.

Here’s a V Magazine update:
3 incredible videos of everyone’s favorite Raquel Zimmerman by Mario Sorrenti, Carolyn Murphy and gorgeous boy models by Sebastian Faena and Kirsten Dunst looking like an old time movie star by Mario Testino. Below the 2 V Man/Ford Models winners. Can’t wait to see the covers shot by Terry Richardson.

Dree Hugger

October 30th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

With appearances in nearly every magazine that matters Dree Hemingway has become one of the most watched faces of the year. Who better to show off the Spring collections fresh off the New York runways than the plucky, all American beauty? Sebastian Faena shoots Dree looking moody in this preview of V62 and Clare Richardson styles using only the latest runway looks – this story is sure to provide an exciting first glimpse at all Spring has to offer.

Blonde Fantasy

September 14th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Ana Claudia Michels strips down for Sebastian Faena‘s camera in the latest VMan. The pristine Ms. Michels manages to look seductive and innocent at the same time – her ethereal beauty is highlighted by Nicola Formichetti‘s styling (the perfect white shirt does not pick itself) and Faena’s soft photographs. Adding to the dreamy quality of the editorial are Silvia Prada‘s lovely sketches of Ana Claudia in all her glory – a fitting tribute to the total package blond goddess.
