Beauty Bytes : Arizona’s New Look

November 18th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Tom Ford’s cosmetics line is still the most buzzed about development in beauty and Into the Gloss’ Emily Weiss explores the collection with a gorgeous shoot starring Arizona Muse. Doing double duty as photographer and makeup artist, Emily created a stunning look on Arizona featuring some of the brand’s key products. A little Noir Absolute for Eyes, a swipe of Lost Cherry lipgloss and Arizona looks flawless. We’re loving Miss Muse’ brand new pageboy crop too! Read the full article here.

Are you a fan of Viktor & Rolf and their mega-popular scent Flowerbomb? The duo is set to launch the masculine version Spicebomb in January. What made them go with spice instead of say citrus or vetiver? Rolf Snoeren tells WWD “We felt that if flowers were a very typical feminine scent, spices were the masculine opposite.” Good to know. Look for the campaign in magazines soon, starring the gorgeous Sean O’Pry

Sean O’Pry looking phenomenal in the Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin image from the campaign.

Remember Prescriptives – the cult beauty line where you could get custom foundations and perfectly blended lipsticks? They’re baaaaaack! Check out their relaunched website for a chance to score your favorites.

If you look inside Uma Thurman’s makeup bag you’ll find loads of Givenchy and a little Laura Mercier too.

WMagazine’s Jane Larkworthy picks the best indie scents and they’re all incredible – we spot Byredo, MCMC and Joya.

Versace Vision

June 17th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Versaces latest campaign offers a bold take on the brands iconography. We’ve come to associate Versace with all things overtly sexy, but Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott‘s F/W campaign shows a darker side with atmospheric shots starring Saskia de Brauw and Sean O’Pry. The powerful pictures have a larger than life and cinematic feel, with both models displaying graceful poise.

When asked in WWD about the change in image, Donatella offered this explanation: “For me, it is expected to have the blonde girl, the sexy girl, and this is what Versace meant recently, but I thought about how in the past, when Gianni used girls like Kristen McMenamy and Stella Tennant, everyone was always saying, ‘Wow, this is not a Versace girl, she is not blonde.’ Sometimes you need to renew yourself to work better and to make a little bit of a push.”

Bits & Bytes: Ragtag!

May 26th, 2011 |Posted by Betty

Tao Okamoto by Russell James. Image courtesy of Tao

Naomi! Liu! Sean O! and more….Tao Okamoto’s Save Japan event is finally here. See items donated by the legendary Naomi Campbell, top models Jenny Shimizu, Heidi Mount, Liu Wen, Sean O’Pry and industry figures like François Nars, Cecilia Dean, Marie Chaix, Phillip Lim, Catherine Malandrino, Thakoon, Pamela Love and many more to raise money for the disaster in Japan. Though the location is called Saturday, the event is actually on Sunday, the 29th. Though we’re dying to see all the fashion items donated by such an eclectic and fabulous crowd, even better may be the chance to see some of these faces on Sunday pitching in for such a great cause. See you Sunday!

The awesome Sally Lyndley talks styling with Katie Grand on Fashionista. Also make sure you check out Katie’s new website, KatieGrand.com.

Carine Roitfeld, the “editrix/dominatrix” talks about her resemblance to Iggy Pop. Love it.

The Imagist has images of Ellen von Unwerth shot by the iconic Guy Bourdin, before she became a top photographer.

Lady Gaga and Karl Lagerfeld‘s t-shirts are our favorites in the Uniqlo t-shirt benefiting the Japanese Red Cross, available next month. Which is yours?

We love Mcqueen as much as the next person but it’s still fascinating to read about his dark side.

Are you Twitter? You’re not? Maybe that’s better, says the NYTimes. Meanwhile the entire MDC crew is: @themoskovic, @hisssquad, @ninjasze, @sansartifice, @fsorrenti, @jonathanshia.

mdc ♥’s : for the boys

February 4th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Could Sean O’Pry be the perfect man? We think he comes pretty close.

In honor of our newly launched, Top Money Guys list, this week’s mdc ♥ is devoted to products for the guys.

SCENTS OF A MAN

With so many incredible men’s scents on the market right now, it is a little hard to choose, but we’ve narrowed it down to four favorites sure to please a variety of guys.

The Sophisticate: Who better than Tom Ford to provide the final touch for the man who has everything? Ford’s Azure Lime is a refreshing blend of citrus and woods that puts a new spin on the classic cologne by adding in a touch of patchouli and musk for added sex appeal. | available at Bergdorf Goodman

The Fashionisto: Insiders know that NYC boutique, Odin is one of the best sources for au currant menswear, so it should come as no surprised that their signature scents are just as innovative. In search of something contemporary yet timeless? Give their scent, Odin Century a try; silver birch, cypress and mint combine for a bold and masculine aroma. | available at ODIN New York

The Dude: For a scent the skews casual and down to earth, you really cannot beat MCMC’s Dude Beard oil. The quirky name draws you in, but it is the spicy blend of cedar, green coriander and pink pepper that keeps you interested. For anyone without a beard there is no need to worry, the fragrant oil can be used all over.| available at MCMC Fragrances

The Classic Gentleman: You can always count on Diptyque for something understated and refined. The line’s signature candles are a mainstay in fashion circles and their eau de toilettes are just as captivating. The rose and vetiver centric composition of Vetyverio is as refined as it gets, we can imagine a modern day Cary Grant pulling it off perfectly. | available at Diptyque

ISAAC REINA ACCESSORIES

Minimal, unfussy and effortless – three elements essential to Isaac Reina’s designs. You won’t find any overwrought it-bags here, just functional and stylish satchels, laptop bags and dop kits all done in buttery soft leather. Reina’s under the radar aesthetic has gained him a cult following and a place in some of the world’s most forward thinking stores.

ACNE’S WALL STREET SUIT

Need a suit, but not quite ready for the full on seriousness of Brooks Brothers or Thom Browne’s eccentricity? Jonny Johansson has got you covered; Acne’s line of suiting manages to mix business with their brand of laid back cool. You might not wear the full on Acne look – complete with earring and knit cap – to the office, but a touch a punk never hurt anyone.

| available at Acne Studios

A BRIEF MUSICAL INTERLUDE

We’ve seen at least a dozen male models wearing the ubiquitous Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, so it is safe to say that there is a little trend emerging. With their stylish design and high quality audio, it is very easy to see why these headphones keep popping up. While were not quite sure what the boys are listening to, we’ve been playing The Black Keys in our office nonstop.

| Beats by Dr. Dre available at The Apple Store Brothers, by the Black Keys available via iTunes

The One

October 1st, 2010 |Posted by Betty

The passage of time is not so kind for many but Sean O’Pry is seemingly impervious to this fate. His editorials this month for 7TH Man Magazine (with a fantastic cover and editorial by Randall Mesdon, styled by Julie Ragolia) and shoots for Details/British GQ/Vogue Nippon prove that there’s never a moment when that extraordinary face is not in demand.

Sean O Shines

September 4th, 2008 |Posted by Betty

Sean O continues to show his editorial versatility with a brilliant take on the most recognized icon of the silent film era, Charlie Chaplin’s The Little Tramp. GQ Taiwan is one of the new breed of men’s magazines in Asia that recognizes the importance of top models like Sean. We say, the more we see of Sean, the better!
