First Look: FY! Magazine #7

October 13th, 2015 |Posted by jonathan

Fashion fans are nothing if not passionate, and that passion can sometimes tip over into, yes, obsession, making an appropriate theme for the new issue of Fucking Young, out next week. And who better to illustrate that idea than cover star Lucky Blue Smith, the male model whose million-plus Instagram followers can be as rabid, frantic, and compulsive as they come. Smith is photographed, looking every bit the dauphin, by the legendary duo Pierre et Gilles, who describe their lush, baroque aesthetic in an accompanying interview within. The rest of the issue devotes itself to very 2015 crazes, from Instagram selfies and Tumblr collages to retro vinyl fetishization. Sven de Vries is photographed by Giovanni Squatriti and styled by Daniele Umberto Maria Pellegrinetti in a shiny nighttime extravaganza, while Erik van Gils is captured by Florian Joahn and Jeanpaul Paula in eye-catching prints and patterns. Tom Barker, Brian Shimansky, Oran Katan, and Leo Vlasic bid farewell to summer in a searing Fire Island retreat photographed by Chuando & Frey and styled by Garth Condit, and Pablo Saez and Alberto Murtra tweak the cleanliness of Dior Homme’s suiting for Fall in a feature that riffs on the classic horror film Peeping Tom. Take an exclusive first look at the new issue, available for preorder here below.

Signs of the Times

April 20th, 2015 |Posted by jonathan

As we move from Aries into Taurus, Spanish menswear magazine Fucking Young!—born under the sign of Capricorn—prepares to launch a Spring/Summer 2015 issue this week devoted to the theme of the Zodiac, with a story on each of the twelve standard signs along with one for the little-known thirteenth, Ophiucus, the Serpent Bearer, here portrayed by Alessio Pozzi.

Alexandre Cunha plays Aquarius wrapped in a wool scarf by Loewe on the cover shot by Gorka Postigo, while Benedikt Angerer and Andre Bona embody the clean intellect of Capricorn. The twins Niek and Erik Put are, of course, Gemini, and Dominik Bauer stars in a darkly glittering take on Scorpio. Interviews with designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony and Kenzo and Jeremy Scott of Moschino fill out the issue, which ends with a horoscope for the year ahead. Take a look at our exclusive preview of the issue, available now for preorder at Fucking Young, below.

Essentially Exciting

August 14th, 2014 |Posted by jonathan

Fresh off an eyecatching redesign, American menswear journal Essential Homme gets a head start on Fall with its new August/September issue, out this week. A grown-up Daniel Radcliffe stares out from the front cover, and the issue is packed with enticing styles for the cold days to come, kicked off by a collections story featuring iconic brands from Louis Vuitton and Hermès to Dior Homme and Lanvin. Designer interviews with Gucci’s Frida Giannini, Gieves & Hawkes’ Jason Basmajian, and rising star Patrik Ervell add some heft, interspersed with a variety of visions for Fall 2014. Mark Cox takes on smooth turtlenecks in an Eighties-inspired story, while the three finalists from the magazine’s casting search with Wilhelmina are dressed up in denim. Philip Witts and Rasmus Hååg—themselves finalists from last year’s VMAN/Ford Models Model Search—are sleek in an all-HUGO story, and Alexander Ferrario and Misa Patinszki take on some of the season’s more daring looks in an autumnal feature. New faces Nick Shaw and McClain Driver, shine in 2 other graphic editorials. Covering everything from sleek suiting to chunky Nineties creepers, the latest Essential Homme proves to be the ultimate resource for the season ahead.

Spring Break

March 21st, 2013 |Posted by Betty

How ready is everyone for spring? Spanish magazine Fucking Young‘s new issue, with the theme of ‘1997’, certainly brightens the blustery day with a delightful dose of the coolest male models garbed in eye catching pieces by Burberry, Ermenegildo Zegna, Fred Perry and more. Luca Finotti shoots and art directs Dutch favorite Ton Heukels for the cover but keep an eye out for the vintage Gianni Versace archive pieces for the inside edit. And yes all those braces were worn solely for the shoot. Check out the cheeky (and teeth-y) video below and preorder it, here.
