Kiss Off

July 21st, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

The lovely Samantha Gradoville graces Numero‘s latest cover and we can’t help but notice that she’s looking a little different. Sofia Sanchez and Mauro Mongiello‘s color saturated cover image draws our eyes to a very cosmetically enhanced pout. The fétiche headline lets us know were in for something a little sinful and the larger than life lips prepare us for a story that is sure to push the beauty boundaries.

Clean Lines

September 1st, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Sometimes the simplest clothes make for the most engaging portraits; Anthony Maule and stylist, Samuel Francois create a sleek Numéro editorial centered around fall’s minimalist shapes. Using impeccable ensembles from brands like Calvin Klein and Rochas shot in a stripped down high contrast style, Maule crafts a beautiful series of images heightened by Samantha Gradoville‘s strong and sexy presence. The jet black eyebrows, the slicked back hair crafted by Romina Manenti, that incredible red Margiela coat – now this is how you do power dressing!

In the Shadows

July 28th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Numero never fails to offer up something different and the August issue showcases the talents of photographer Viviane Sassen in an atypical editorial starring Samantha Gradoville. Using shadow and light to great effect, Sassen creates a surreal atmosphere and Belén Casadevalls colorful styling combines the best of the season’s knits with a pair of unbelievable over the knee boots by Chanel. With its raw outdoor shots and dreamy feel the story is a breath of fresh air and Samantha looks flawless even in the contorted poses.

Image Conscious

May 18th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

W gives us an early taste of fall with Craig McDean‘s chic portfolio of the season’s must have looks. Using a cast of IMG beauties and a simple peach backdrop, McDean highlights just about every piece we loved from the F/W collections. Once again Alex White‘s styling looks phenomenal and each girl wears an ensemble that speaks to her personality; could anyone look better in that stunning Haakan dress than Karolina, who better to show off Rodarte’s ethereal spirt than Liya? See the full portfolio and the models and designer’s take on each look at W Magazine.com

Fashion news:

For those of you who missed the incredible Viktor and Rolf show in Paris, here’s a quick explanation and video.

Fashionista catches a guy explaining runway shows to a friend, and he’s pretty damn accurate.

Bernard Arnault is the 7th richest man in the world. His rival Bernard Pinault is the 77th. We are not on this list.

This review of Alexander McQueen’s show made me cry. I’m so glad that Frida Gustavsson did the show. Talking to her during February NY shows, it was obvious that she, as a fashion student really had an understanding and appreciation for how important he was to fashion.

Photography news:

Check out Victor Demarchelier‘s exhibit, Creating Images, opening on Monday the 15th. As you know, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree

Olivier Zahm is not all about naked women and sex. Well, maybe he is. Style.com does their next Future of Fashion interview with Olivier where he talks about wanting to be a photographer, why Karl Lagerfeld can do 25 things, where fashion and the internet is headed. Meanwhile the Cut dissects it.

Of course Olivier Zahm is Terry Richardson’s best friend.

From Fashionista: “Model Rie Rasmussen snapped at photographer Terry Richardson, reports Page Six. At a recent party in Paris, Rasmussen told Richardson she thinks he degrades women.” Wow.

Modeling news:

Abbey Lee Kershaw‘s pet of choice is not exactly cuddly.

Josie Borain, iconic 80′s model who worked with Calvin Klein, just released a book of her photos.

Samantha Gradoville, Prada’s opener and closer, is sooo sweet in this video made right at the end of Paris shows.

Catching up with Made in Brazil’s stories:

The girl with the most NY shows (31) is especially clean and pristine on the cover of the new Deutsch.

Hey, any chance to post pictures of modeling legend, Kristen McNemany, I will take it. This photo is the exact reason why Calvin Klein will always be relevant. The embrace of the legendary (Kristen) with a modern day beauty (Doutzen) shows how the brand will always keep you guessing.

A BIG bits & Bytes: some news is old, some is new, catching people up from fashion week!

Modeling info:

Our incredible Wayne Sterling expounds on the meaning of walking the runways of today.

Craig Arend sits down with Storm’s Sarah Doukas who discovered a young 14 year old lass named Kate Moss.

Looking for the new Black “IT” girl are Elite Models and Essence Magazine.

Missy Rayder, naked and beautiful for V Magazine’s video.

Benetton‘s next campaign face.. it could be you!

Coco Rocha, we adore you! Here she talks, uncensored about the NY Times/Daily News “stories” on her being considered “fat”.

Speaking of Coco, Hilary Rhoda interviews Coco, on Fashion Week Daily.

Ponyryder had 3 stellar interviews with the wonderful Amanda Norgaard, Love magazine cover star Jeneil Williams and Prada opener and closer, Samantha Gradoville.

Arlenis Sosa for Latina Magazine at a party sponsored by Lancome (see pic below). Kind of a big deal as past covergirls have been Jennifer Lopez and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayer. Arlenis talks about how black models need to stick together.

Male models should tremble. Zoolander 2 is in the works.

Another evil and unkind moment in the fashion industry. Frockwriter dissects the mess about Gemma Ward.

Photography:

How do you get started in fashion photography? Tips from the experts are right here.

For female photographers only, here is eye opening advice from A Photo Editor.

Fashionista talks to a Getty photographer.

Style.com shows that Trovata designer John Whitledge, takes a pretty mean picture as well… See his Fashion Week diary with Erin Wasson and Kirsten Dunst.

Fashion and miscellaneous:

LVMH-owned E Luxury is gone, only to be replaced by the Nowness. With that kind of backing, that website should be quite interesting.

One of our favorite casting directors, Daniel Peddle, was featured on the NY Times’ the Moment during Fashion Week (if you missed it!)

Also: if you missed from fashion week…. Incredible insights on Style.com from Cathy Horyn and Robert Duffy from Marc Jacobs on the state of the fashion industry.

Style.com‘s interview with Hedi Slimane. Does he go back to designing? Find out….

Vogue Italia, Vogue Black and Vogue Curvy. Yes, we wish they were one, but hey, at least the dialogue is starting. (The Cut via Jezebel).

Speaking of Vogue, Jezebel talks about how those cover lines are made up (edited out from the September issue). It’s pretty darn funny.

Fashion Week Daily has a deleted scene from the September Issue where Karl Lagerfeld separates us from them (my words not his). Another hilarous moment from Karl.
