And The Nominees Are…

June 2nd, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

With the CFDA awards right around the corner, the tension is mounting. Who will win? Who will lose? What will they wear? The answers to all these questions will be revealed Monday night, but in the meantime the annual nominees portfolio only adds to the excitement. Shot by Solve Sundsbo and styled by Lori Goldstein, the images feature designers posing alongside models who represent the look of their brand; Jason Wu stands in awe of the statuesque Karlie Kloss, wearing one of his elegant fall creations, while Prabal Gurung lounges with Heidi Mount. Marc Jacobs may have missed the photoshoot but with a team of models led by Jacquelyn Jablonski and Paul Boche, wearing masks of the designer’s face you hardly notice his absence, Trey Laird‘s inventive creative direction, really makes these images shine.

Solve Sundsbo‘s transforms Alessandra Ambrosio into a living doll for the debut issue of Industrie. In the Japanese cartoon doll inspired story, styled by Katie Grand, Alessandra is nearly unrecognizable beneath layers of white makeup and a platinum wig, the drastic change allows Ale, to take on a whole new character. In addition to Ale, the highly stylized story, also serves as a retrospective of Giles Deacon’s most striking pieces!

Issues devoted to a single model are all the rage, but Vogue Russia one ups the competition with an issue dedicated entirely to supermodel Naomi Campbell. The April issue is a must have for Naomi fans and features the supermodel candidly answering questions from the likes of Claudia Schiffer and Chanel Iman, photographers Steven Meisel, Solve Sundsbo and Mario Testino also pay tribute to the diva with exclusive editorials.

Flashing Lights

December 3rd, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

January’s Vogue Nippon is filled with cool content but Solve Sundsbo‘s couture story with Cameron Russell is the standout of the entire issue. Everything in the editorial works together perfectly : George Cortina fills the page with one of a kind pieces by Givenchy and Chanel, Cameron’s poses add sexiness and elegance to the mix and Solve’s style fills the pictures with energy. Many photographers fill their work with lens flares and tricks of light, but Solve takes things to another level creatively : his pictures never fail to have that wow factor that separates them from the pack.
