At Large Magazine Dons Five Covers

September 4th, 2015 |Posted by jonathanshia

The latest issue of At Large Magazine evokes a sense of exploration and adventure, a quest for the open road and a glimpse of what’s beyond the horizon. Five covers—Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola, composer J. Ralph, models Marcus Lindberg and Phil Sullivan, and a searing landscape of Monument Valley—offer a fresh change for the new season, as layers pile on and colors turn richer. Within, Amendola discusses his clutch Super Bowl catch in his cover feature, shot by Randall Mesdon and styled by Melissa Yates, and Sullivan takes up mountaineering for an editorial photographed by Matthew Porter. Prints and textures mix and match in Mesdon’s feature with Bill Mullen, while Fabien Kruszelnicki and Paul Sinclaire contrast the stark energy of youth with the grown-up looks on Alex Cunha by Benjamin Lennox and Julie Ragolia. Nick Wooster shares some of his most memorable belongings, including a Rimowa suitcase battered from his many travels, and Akiko Kurematsu explores an overgrown garden of surreal sculpture hidden in the Mexican forest with a photo essay by Peter Ash Lee. Take an exclusive first look at the issue below, and stay tuned for our interview with At Large fashion director Julie Ragolia coming soon.

At Large and In Charge

December 4th, 2014 |Posted by jonathanshia

The surge in independent publishing continues this week with the launch of At Large Magazine, a new triennial menswear magazine that offers a “first-class seat on an irreverent ride through form and content, fact and fiction, investigation and conversation, aesthetics and adventure.” And a splashy début it is, with four covers—including rising stars Jack O’Connell from Unbroken and Luke Grimes from American Sniper, both shot by Randall Mesdon—and a party to celebrate at Art Basel Miami Beach this Friday with Aaron Young, the Webster, and A$AP Rocky.

Bruce Weber contributes an original portfolio to this first issue, to go along with photo-collages by Jack Pierson and limited-edition bandanas by Young. A third cover features pro surfer Ben Skinner, photographed here by Ben Weller with styling by Julie Ragolia, with an accompanying candid seaside story within. The fourth cover, with artist/model David Alexander Flinn is shot by Mark Abrahams, styled by Deborah Watson. The long-haired Travis Smith takes center stage in another fashion feature, photographed by Matthew Brookes and dressed by Bill Mullen in the season’s sharpest, cleanest sportswear pieces. Take a look at these stories in an exclusive preview of the promising new start below and get the special At Large/J.Crew collaboration t-shirt right here.

The One

October 1st, 2010 |Posted by Betty

The passage of time is not so kind for many but Sean O’Pry is seemingly impervious to this fate. His editorials this month for 7TH Man Magazine (with a fantastic cover and editorial by Randall Mesdon, styled by Julie Ragolia) and shoots for Details/British GQ/Vogue Nippon prove that there’s never a moment when that extraordinary face is not in demand.
