Bound Together

May 14th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Prada’s fall runway show memorably paid tribute to the films of Werner Rainer Fassbinder and in the pages of Interview Magazine Craig McDean takes the same point of reference and turns it into an editorial that lives up to it’s inspiration. The always intriguing duo of Kim Peers and Querelle Jansen play off each other on a set that calls to mind that of Fassbinder’s The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant . Piers Hanmer doesn’t miss a beat and his set captures key elements of the films production design – from the elaborate baroque paintings, down to the oversized brass bed. Peers and Jansen take on the roles of controlling designer and submissive assistant with aplomb, adding a touch of sensuality to McDean’s stylized imagery.

Survivalism

May 1st, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Luxury fashion might not be the first thing that springs to mind when you’re stranded on a desert island, but who says that a girl can’t accessorize herself out of a bad situation. Laurie Bartley (Management + Artists) creates a decadent version of survivalism in the pages of Numero Tokyo with Querelle Jansen playing the role of well-dressed crash survivor making the best of it in pieces from Louis Vuitton and Proenza Schouler. Stylist Felipe Mendes manages to make even the most extravagant designer pieces work in this unique scenario, while pared down hair and makeup by Dennis Gots (Jed Root) and Diego Sierralta keep Querelle looking disheveled yet unquestionably chic.

Just One Look – YSL

January 18th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Every year there are pieces that become repeat offenders: out of the hundreds of looks presented each season a few manage to monopolize editorial space and show up in just about every magazine. When you see the same piece in different images the importance of styling, hair & makeup really becomes evident – one wrong element and the clothes can look unappealing.

Lately we’ve been noticing a very chic Yves Saint Laurent coat popping up in editorial after editorial, looking different in each picture.  Made of “pale green lace jacquard with black cornelly embroideries” the coat was look one during the spring / summer show and looked pretty fetching on Kasia Struss. In the magazines the same look takes on a variety of guises: in the pages of Vogue Italia it turns into a harlequin costume for Querelle Jansen, while Harper’s Bazaar uses it as a retro topper for a blonde Bette FrankeW Magazine focuses on the graphic print with a black and white shot and some serious eye makeup on Cara Delevingne, while Elle goes in a flamboyant direction placing it on top of a red satin bra and a knit skirt from Chloe.

The Girlie Show

December 1st, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Mikael Jansson takes Querelle Jansen and Marte Mei van Haaster into fresh territory with a spectacular story for Interview. Focusing on pieces with feminine details like lace and crocheting, Karl Templer styles the duo in colorful looks from Marc Jacobs and Valentino and with lingerie accents from Araks. With their skilled posing Querelle and Marte Mei really bring each ensemble to life. Take a closer look and you’ll also spot an exciting preview of the Prada jewelry collection – who can resist that gorgeous rosette necklace on Querelle! It is the contrast between the girly clothing and jewelry and the hard edged backdrop designed by Mary Howard that really makes this story shine.
