Americana

June 17th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Mikael Jansson takes a voyage upstate for a rustic editorial that pairs pieces from fashion’s most luxurious labels with a down home backdrop that speaks to America’s working class roots. Wearing Louis Vuitton and Prada to the local rail-station or back-alley isn’t an every day occurrence, but in the knowing hands of Karl Templer the pieces seem down to earth rather than lofty. As worn by the youthful cast led by Grace Hartzel, Tami Williams, Harleth Kuusik, Nastya Sten, Vanessa Moody, Waleska GorczevskiDani Witt and Julia Hafstrom these designer looks represent the dressed down uniform girls everywhere. With this story Interview Magazine adds another hit to this month’s impressive editorial lineup.

Prada’s Pastiche

May 21st, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Miuccia Prada‘s fall collection offered a subversive take on the films of Fassbinder and all things connected with German art, so it seems fitting that the corresponding campaign is equally esoteric. Mica Arganaraz and Karl Kolbitz pose against a backdrop of brutalist architecture as Steven Meisel shoots the duo looking aloof and oh so elegant. Prada is known for its inventive campaigns and quirky videos, so this seasons reserved almost severe imagery feels like a refreshing change of pace.

First Look: Lurve

April 24th, 2014 |Posted by models.com

Lurve Magazine‘s next era kicks off with a stellar issue with a fresh perspective on fashion. Editor in chief Lyna V. Ahanda, new fashion director Moreno Galatà and fashion editor Alessandra Conti create an issue focused on a modern interpretation of 90s style fashion photography. Bringing all the raw energy and individualism that defined the 90s aesthetic back into the mix is an inspired move and one that makes each editorial feel vital.

The issue’s six covers take the theme head on with a diverse lineup of models & photogs; reportage photographer Olivia Arthur shoots model Adwoa Aboah in Louis Vuitton; while Lily McMenamy sports Céline in a stylized shot by Sonia Sieff. Queen of cool Caroline de Maigret shows another side in an elegant image by Alessio BolzoniRobbie McKinnon sports a brush and stacks of vinyl in his cheeky cover by Edmund Aves. The always chic Elisa Sednaoui is serene in Prada in her cover by Laurence Ellis (Visual Artist UK ) and Hanne Gaby Odiele delights in a striking image by Dario Catellani (Paris: ArtList Paris, New York: ArtList NY)

Inside the content is every bit as compelling as the covers, with an array of contributors providing exciting new edits that adhere to that avant garde 90s spirit. Each story is special in its own way, but famed street photographer Nick Turpin providing his first fashion work, shooting Neelam Johal in a museum setting is a bonafide moment.

A Singular Beauty

April 9th, 2014 |Posted by Matthew

It’s always a thrill to see a fresh face land her first major cover. Nominating Maria Borges for the May 2014 cover, Vogue Portugal takes a minimal approach and lets the rising model’s incredible features stand out. Following up back-to-back knockout turns on the Fall RTW and Spring Couture runways, Maria embodies demure elegance in a pared down cover shoot by photographer Rui Aguiar. Styled by Paulo Macedo in looks from Prada, Alaia, and Maison Martin Margiela, Maria shows off the singular grace that’s already made her a favorite at Dior, Tom Ford, and Givenchy. Adding this stunning series to her growing repertoire, this Angolan beauty is sure to have a bright future ahead of her.

Pradafied

April 3rd, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

What makes a Prada girl? Is it beauty? Is it chic? Or is it that altogether intangible it-quality that separates the best from the rest. Sasha Pivovarova has it, Daria Werbowy has it and now Prada taps yet another face blessed with it – Chicagoan Lexi Boling steps up to the plate in the brand’s pre-fall campaign shot by Steven Meisel. Looking at ease while holding an array of accessories Boling captures the quintessential Prada look.

Endless Summer

April 3rd, 2014 |Posted by Matthew

Last fall, while the rest of the world was settling in for winter, Self Service hit the L.A. coastline for a glimpse into Summer 2014. Soaking up 48 hours of sun and surf, Anna Ewers and Kirsty Hume strike a perfect pair of beach blondes in this carefree California editorial, photographed by Glen Luchford (Art Partner). Anna and Kirsty join up with a band of surfer dudes, catch a few waves, and laze on the shore, all the while sporting spring’s most enviable fashions styled by Marie Chaix (Art Partner). Like any beach weekend, Anna and Kirsty’s jaunt isn’t without its hijinks; after swapping Prada and Proenza Schouler for a wetsuit, Anna goes rogue, paddling out in full Chanel.
