AFL Project #2

AFL Magazine, the personal project of photographer Axel Filip Lindahl, released its second issue “A Reality Somewhere”. The work is a folio of analog fashion editorials featuring on the rise newcomers like Lauren de Graaf, seen on the cover plucked from the inside Céline story, and some already established faces like Julia Hafstrom, who was captured in the Bronx (all the editorials are titled by their relative street addresses). Though all the images are captured by Axel himself, contributing stylists Elodie David Touboul, Ondine Azoulay and Patrick Mackie provide their respective perspectives. See the issue preview below.

More is More

Director Sofia Coppola takes the reigns at W Magazine for a special summer supplement dedicated to her passions and inspirations. The gamine director has done stints as a model in the past and has long stood out as an icon of effortless style, so it’s interesting to see just what a magazine helmed by Coppola would look like. One of the most interesting features is a sumptuous fashion story by Roe Ethridge shot in the home of socialite Cornelia Guest. The pattern heavy and undeniably retro-luxe decor serves as the perfect backdrop for stylist Patrick Mackie (Management + Artists)’s selection of decadent swimwear and cover ups. Hilary Rhoda plays the role of society siren admirably and the editorial’s more is more ethos provides the issue with a welcome touch of maximalism.

Emma Summerton and Patti Wilson tackle the season’s lace trend with an elegant story for Vogue Italia. With Aline Weber sporting some of the season’s key pieces, the story hits all the right  notes. Look closely and you’ll see Ralph Lauren‘s infamous dragon dress (fresh from Rooney Mara‘s November Vogue cover) and Stella McCartney’s popular polka dot number and even a look from Nicola Formichetti‘s Mulgler reboot. Shot in Summerton’s frosty color palette and accented by Shay Ashual & Mathias van Hooff‘s hair and makeup magic, the images are pure fashion fantasy.
