Anna Rises

October 30th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

It is easy to see why Anna Ewers is the most wanted girl of the moment. The German beauty has a pristine appeal that calls to mind Deutschland favorites like Toni Garrn and Claudia Schiffer. Classic beauty is always great, but nothing beats a girl with the look and the ability to bring it in front of the camera. Since her stellar show season (check out her Top 10 Newcomer story) Anna has been making a splash in the pages of Vogue Paris, CR Fashion Book, British Vogue and the latest Prada campaign – an impressive lineup for any model, but a breakout series of bookings for a girl fresh on the scene.

If there is one model who is clocking overtime this month it is superstar, Doutzen Kroes, a perennial fashion favorite who is making a big splash on the September issues. With four covers this month including a stunning Steven Meisel shot Vogue Italia, Doutzen is raising the bar and displaying the beauty that has made her an icon.

Lanvin Luxe

July 9th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Fashion has the power to transform you, literally. Steven Meisel puts the old adage to the test and takes Edie Campbell on a wild trip through the latest Lanvin collection in the new fall advertising campaign. Portraying six very different personas in the sleek shots, Edie showcases the versatility of Alber Elbaz‘s designs and her innate posing skills – it’s not easy to look chic while holding a duck and wearing a two-tone fur. Her transformations are aided by impressive makeup by Pat McGrath and Guido Palau‘s hair magic, all of which combines to show a fresh side of Ms. Campbell.

Prada Persuasion

June 27th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Prada‘s elegant fall collection comes to life with a thrilling new campaign by Steven Meisel. In previous seasons the brand has gone for high concept ads and elaborate set ups, but for fall the focus is all on the clothes and the cast. The mix of striking new faces alongside seasoned fashion veterans highlights the universal appeal of Miuccia Prada’s designs and reinforces the idea that a Prada ensemble is the right choice for women of all ages.

A Healthy Obsession

June 4th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Whenever Steven Meisel and Gisele Bundchen join forces for Vogue Italia you know you’re in for a treat. The June issue delves into beauty with a satirical look at the pleasures of primping – from your basic treatments and manicures, to controversial extremes like the much discussed ‘vampire’ facial. Meisel shoots in his signature high gloss style, while Lori Goldstein mixes in pieces from Louis VuittonFendi alongside a few larger-than-life Chanel Joaillerie sparklers. Given the subject matter the dream team of Pat McGrathGuido Palau and Jin Soon Choi are naturally a big part of the action – their elegant touch keeps Gisele looking flawless, even in the middle of chemical peels and deep conditioning masks.

Editorial Inspiration : Jerry Hall

December 4th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Open up the new Vogue Italia and you’ll see the stunning Vanessa Axente looking amazing in Steven Meisel‘s ultra-chic imagery, but take a closer look and you may get a case of deja vu. Don’t those long blonde waves look familiar, isn’t the outsized eroticism and in your face glamour reminiscent of a time, a place? If you started to hear the Rolling Stones playing the background and got a distinctly 70s feel from the entire endeavor, you’re on the right track. Meisel looks back to the iconic allure of Jerry Hall and the saturated, decadent imagery of the disco era. You’ll see hints of Helmut Newton, Willie Christie, Antonio Lopez and more in Meisel’s images, while Karl Templer transforms Resort pieces into over the top looks fit for Studio 54. With a swipe of Pat McGrath applied red lipstick and a Guido Palau coiffed waves, Vanessa transforms into a latter day Jerry, while Marlon Teixeira provides the manpower. A Tale of Two Kates

November 2nd, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Lately it seems like everyone has an opinion on Kate Upton and usually it is a strong one. There are those who say she’s bringing classic curvaceousness back to fashion, those who find her nouveau-pinup schtick grating and of course there are her legions of adoring fans. Fortunately, the only opinions that matter at the end of the day are those of the photographers, stylists and editors who keep falling under her spell. The latest Uptonite is of course Steven Meisel, a man who knows a thing or two about what makes a model great. Meisel features Kate’s ample charms in the latest issues of Vogue Italia and American Vogue, a feat that would be a coup for any model, but for Upton it takes on a special signifigance. Love her or hate her she’s sticking around and is going to be a part of some beautiful imagery.

Speaking controversial Kates, the one and only Kate Moss surfaces on the cover of Vanity Fair looking resplendent in new shots from Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. It is rare for VF to feature living celebrities on their covers, but that is a testament to Moss’ enduring crossover appeal – even those with no interest in fashion know the legend and mystique that is Kate. Odds are that many of those same people will be lining up to find out more about Miss Moss when her autobiography / picture tome hits bookstores. Kate has always maintained an air of mystery (this is the woman who famously gave one word answers in a post-scandal interview) but she sets the record straight on certain subjects in VF, which makes this a must read.

Take a look back at Kate’s 25 year career on Vanity Fair’s slideshow | Read the Interview on VF.com

Super Modern

June 19th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

It is not every day you see fashion models on the cover of a major American magazine. Actors, musicians and even omnipresent reality stars have usurped models on US mag covers and few publications understand that the general public might be interested in seeing someone fashionable and beautiful on their glossies, instead of just getting a glimpse of the latest celeb with a movie to pimp.

As a consumate leader W Magazine always goes off the beaten path and creates stunning imagery – case in point, the latest covers shot by Steven Meisel and starring budding supers Joan Smalls and Karlie Kloss. The larger than life hair by Oribe, the glowing skin courtesy of Pat McGrath and stunning styling by Edward Enninful, it all combines to create a look that is bold and larger than life – echoing the classic Avedon images of of the original supers from years past. Add to this a charming article that show’s both young women are more than just pretty faces and you have the makings of a must buy issue.
