Vogue Russia Picks its New Crop

August 27th, 2015 |Posted by steven.yatsko

For Vogue Russia‘s September issue, Jason Kibbler photographs the stand-out fresh faces of Russia styled by Olga Dunina. The crop of up and comers have all been catching the eye of industry principals of seasons late. Russia being a wellspring of top models is nothing new, of course, but no one can argue against their knack for oft turning out fashion’s créme de la créme in good supply. These runway tested breakouts are proving they’re nothing less than that, like willowy Gucci campaign girl Lia Pavlova, the very wanted redhead Varya Shutova, or the Jil Sander muse Sofia Tesmenitskaya. See who else they cast as their it-girls:

Poly Power

August 21st, 2015 |Posted by steven.yatsko

It’s never hard to find a good reason to write about Natasha Poly–whether it’s recapping a prolific career that sports endless covers and campaigns, or simply musing on the catwalk queen’s iconic power strut. So, if only to remind ourselves of her interminable dominance ever since 2004, it’s worth mentioning her latest haul for Autumn 2015. For the cover of the Vogue Paris‘ September issue, photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the super radiates a wild, untamed beauty–courtesy of stylist Emmanuelle Alt and makeup artist Val Garland. Back in her homeland, Natasha fronts the latest issue of Vogue Russia. The look here is austere, photographed by Patrick Demarchelier and styled by Olga Dunina, looking perfectly chic in lustrous leathers with a defining bold eye by Virginia Young. Besides these two top glossies–no sweat–Miss Poly can be seen in Michael Kors’ Fall 2015 campaign all polished and lensed by Mario Testino. Certainly she’s flexing a little Poly Power! But when is she not? Viva Natasha!

Russia’s Operetta

March 16th, 2015 |Posted by Irene Ojo-Felix

Caped gowns, face paint and elaborate embellishing suggests operatic inspirations were behind Vogue Russia’s April cover story. Txema Yeste and the team fuse baroque whimsy with a modernly costumed Natasha Poly. It’s Yeste’s first Vogue Russia cover, but this one makes eleven for Russian icon Poly. The vibrant fashion editorial paints in eye-catching strokes using red as a warring component against the playfully theatric adornments by Olga Dunina. Makeup artist Tyron Machhausen (BRIDGE Artists) redirects attention from an understated glowing skin to a painted white-and-rose face, common in the realm of opera. A single black and white image stands out as a classic note in contrast to the rest of the visuals like the indulgently styled and royally pearl-laden portrait.

Fashion’s coolest model transforms into a showgirl for Yeste’s glittery, ultra-saturated images and turns up the heat with sensual poses that display that finely toned physique. With the bold colors and Yeste’s surrealist touch the story takes on a fantastical quality that gives the photos an added power.

Sport is a popular theme this month with several magazines looking to the World Cup and pre-fall’s energetic collections for inspiration. Vogue Russia offers a fashionable take on the theme with Jason Kibbler‘s (Cadence New York) spirited cover story starring Sam Rollinson. With fashion by Olga Dunina and icy makeup by Benjamin Puckey (New York: D + V Management, London: D + V Management ) the story captures the athletic and chic mood aptly, pairing striped jumpers with designer sneakers and metallic pullovers galore. The casual luxe styling suits Sam perfectly with each look complimenting her own easy-going vibe, even when the accessories include a football.

Yves Saint Laurent remains one of fashion’s enduring icons and Vogue Russia pays tribute to his legacy with a fashion story focused on Saint Laurent’s famous friendship with muses Betty Catroux and LouLou de la Falaise. Mariano Vivanco  shoots and Olga Dunina styles as Nadja Bender, Fanny Francois and Mathias Sourbron play the parts of Betty, Loulou and Yves respectively.
