It doesn’t take much to make Daria Werbowy look good, but Josh Olins brings out Daria’s best in the pages of WSJ‘s fall fashion edition. The globe-trekking supermodel looks luxe in Nicolas Ghesquière‘s debut Vuitton collection and a series of other looks selected by Alastair McKimm. With a laid-back grace that is evident whether she’s wearing jeans or draped in furs, Werbowy pulls off the looks admirably lending the story a seventies style cool that makes even the priciest pieces seem down to earth.

September Reign

By now we’ve all heard the story about celebrities taking precious magazine cover spots away from models, but this September it appears the tides have turned. After years of stars on the front pages more and more magazines are looking to models for their biggest fashion issues. British Vogue boasts Cara Delevingne looking sleek in Nicolas Ghesquière‘s collection for Louis Vuitton in an image by Mario Testino (Art Partner), while Elle UK enlists a Prada clad Kate Upton for fashion forward shot by Matt Jones. Though the September covers are only just starting to debut you can already see which collections are going to be inecapable for the next few months.  WSJ provides a fetching seventies style image of Daria Werbowy by Josh Olins that also puts Ghesquière’s wares to good use. In keeping with the trend The New York Times’ T Magazine reaches for Prada, sheathing Vanessa Axente in one of the brand’s oversized coats in a strong cover image by Craig McDean.

Vuitton’s New Groove

As one of the ultimate luxury brands Louis Vuitton has to take things just one step further than the rest. Case in point Nicolas Ghesquière‘s first campaign for LV, which boasts three of photography’s biggest names – Juergen Teller, Bruce Weber and Annie Leibovitz. Each superstar was given free reign to interpret Ghesquière’s fall collection and photograph some of his many muses. Naturally Liya Kebede, Freja Beha Erichsen and Charlotte Gainsbourg make appearances and newcomers Jean Campbell and Kirstin Liljegren star alongside the three Ghesquière vets. The striking Series 1 ads are a completely new direction for LV and serve to usher in the brands thrilling new chapter under Ghesquière.

The Biz : Wang Confirmed

Alexander Wang taking the reigns at Balenciaga is a story that will likely dominate the fashion headlines for the next few months. Whether you’re still in mourning after Nicolas Ghesquiere‘ departure, or simply charting the seemingly endless designer shuffle that seems to sum up the current state of flux that permeates the entire industry, this is arguably the most exciting fashion news in a long time. Ever since Cathy Horyn revealed the scoop in her NY Times column the subject has been hotly debated. The one thing everyone can agree on though, is that this begins a new chapter for Balenciaga, one that will determine the brand’s future. We will be waiting with baited breath to see what Wang comes up with for his first Balenciaga collection.

Another exciting new appointment, The Last Magazine‘s Magnus Berger has been named the new creative director of Wall Street Journal’s WSJ magazine. Considering the uniqueness and beauty to be found in every single issue of The Last, we’re expecting big things from WSJ in the coming months.

Karl Lagerfeld never stops, so it is no surprise to find that he’s part of another exciting collaboration. Lagerfeld and Brazilian line Melissa shoes have teamed up for a new global partnership, one where Lagerfeld will design 4 special footwear capsule collections, the first of which will be unveiled in March 2013.

Pre-fall collections are starting to trickle in, with new looks from Belstaff, Helmut Lang and Reed Krakoff.

The line between art and commerce blurs even further with Net-A-Porter set to launch a print magazine, which will surely be as elegant as their online editorials.
