The events & people worth talking about.

VUITTON’S HISTORY LESSON

Marc Jacobs gets the gallery treatment a special exhibition at Les Arts Décoratifs simply titled, Louis Vuitton — Marc Jacobs. Charting the brand’s history from Vuitton’s inception to its Marc-ification with a look back on how LV moved from being a purveyor of monogrammed trunks, to one of fashion’s biggest powerhouses. Take a look at Louise Roe‘s guided tour of the exhibition below and experience her introduction to the word zoetrope.

ROSEN’S REIGN

Andrew Rosen, is the name on everyone’s lips. With labels like Theory, Proenza Schouler, Helmut Lang and Rag & Bone under his watch he’s created America’s most formidable fashion corp. When Anna Wintour compares your company to Europe’s luxury magnates LVMH and PPR, you’re kind of a big deal. The insightful Wall Street Journal profile of Rosen‘s business is an eye-opener and the week’s must read piece of fashion journalism.

NEWTON TAKES PARIS

In the pantheon of fashion legends, there is a special place reserved for Helmut Newton. With his boundary breaking, seductive style he revolutionized the world of photography and set the stage for a slew of provocateurs that followed — we wouldn’t have Olivier Zahm or Carine Roitfeld, without the influence Helmut Newton. The first French exhibition of his work since his death, launches at the Grand Palais Museum. Curated by his widow, June Newton the exhibit contains several hundred photos tackling the major themes in Netwon’s work; fashion, nudes, portraits, sex and humour.

ANDRE LEON TALLEY, REALITY STAR

After years of playing second fiddle to one maniacal fashion queen after another, ALT steps into the spotlight with his very own reality show, Fashion Stories of New York. According to BRAVO the show will ‘follow four up-and-coming fashion design teams as they produce the defining collection of their careers, all under the watchful eye of fashion icon Andre Leon Talley.” Sounds interesting, but we would prefer something where cameras just followed Talley around capturing those oh so witty bon mots he specializes in.

PRIEZLER’S PORTRAITS

Speaking of artists, the very talented Naomi Preizler offers a model viewpoint on the season that was with her dreamy drawings and watercolors inspired by F/W 12. Everything from the floppy hats at Marc Jacobs’ Alice in Wonderland extravaganza, to the ethereal perfection of Raf Simons’ final collection is captured beautifully.

Chadwick Tyler brings his unmistakable style to the pages of Grey with a somber editorial starring Naomi Preizler, Kelsey Van Mook and Mathilde Frachon. The emotive quality of Tyler’s work and some expert posing from the girls makes the story especially moving and the refined color palate lets stylist, Valentina Ilardi Martin‘s work shine.
