MDC Met favorites
May 8th, 2008 | Betty
There’s been a lot of talk in the press about the timidity that the fashion and entertainment stars displayed at the Met Ball. We don’t think it’s true at all; here’s a collage and the reasons why we think these 16 people turned it out, superhero style! If you actually read comics, you’ll recognize these colors and silhouettes. And in from Fashionista, viewers can vote themselves for their favorite looks at Vogue.tv.
Our favorites
Christina Ricci- Hands down our favorite with the colors, the belt, the pose, the unitard.
Anna Wintour- Maybe more Star Wars-y then Storm but still futuristic with the color and shape. Kudos to Anna for dressing with the theme and not playing it safe.
Karl Lagerfeld- The perfect super villain, dressed exactly as he is. Can’t you picture him in the next Iron Man fighting Robert Downey Jr?
Zac Posen- Makes such a handsome Clark Kent with his Superman blue suit and super yellow accessory, sidekick Kate.
The Supers
Andre Leon Talley and Venus Williams- For hauling around that supersized cape
Katie Holmes- A brilliant shade of comic book red in the dress plus the blue shoes= bold heroic fashion choices
Lake Bell- Her red and black Balmain dress is Shazam! totally Captain Marvel!
Linda Carter- Still with the Wonder figure and sporting the trademark bulletproof bracelets.
Super Villainesses
Michelle Monaghan- A modern day Poison Ivy
Claire Danes- The next Batman she-villain?
Raquel Zimmermann- The makeup is so Julie Newmar/Catwoman circa 1960′s; the colors in the Thakoon dress are very Frank Miller.
Cecilia Dean- In the slinky serpent-y Rodarte dress looks so ready to tempt the good hero from the path of justice.
Super shapes and colors
Amber Valetta: With that posture and color of dress, she of course would be one of the good guys… definitely more DC than Marvel heroine though.
Caroline Trentini: Mugler’s futuristic frock definitely has comic book lines. Hero or villain though? With all her Vogue jumping, she will always be a fashion hero to us.
Diane von Furstenberg: Looks like the inkwells at DC comics spilled all over her dress. We see Wonder Woman, Flash, Superman and Captain Marvel all hanging out in the folds.
Kimora Lee Simmons: The white lines are SOOO comic book borders. Maybe more Andy Warhol’s Pop cartoons but still in keeping with the night’s theme.
