mdc ♥s: Summer Beauty

July 30th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Is there a more perfect summer beauty than Marloes Horst? We think not!

Makeup melting? Skin acting up? Generally feeling too hot for comfort due to weather ( or perhaps you’re just overheated from looking at that Made in Brazil preview) take a look at some of our favorite products to help you beat the heat.

Adjusting your skincare routine for the summer is a surefire way to alleviate some of the season’s annoyances. Switch to a lightweight moisturizer like Amore Pacific’s Moisture Bound. The unique gel provides enough moisture without ever getting greasy or slick. The oil and sulfate free blend also promises to protect skin against environmental aggravations.

If you aren’t slathering on sunscreen in this heat, you ought to be! Protect yourself with one of La Roche Posay’s foolproof sunscreens. We like the ultra light Anthelios for ease of use and the fact that it can double as a foundation primer.

As the one eyeliner that didn’t melt off our face during the heatwave (believe us when we say that others did and we were looking like raccoons for a minute there) we have to give a special nod to Shiseido’s Automatic Fine Eyeliner. Anything good enough for both Dick Page and Raquel Zimmermann is certainly good enough for us! The brand’s beautiful eye shadow trio in the limited edition Pink Sands, is another of our faves.

Bronzer is a tough call. The deep sienna shades we see on the runways rarely carry over into real life and the dreaded Oompa Loompa overdose of orangey bronze is all too common. Thankfully, Bobbi Brown’s natural matte shades, make the selection process easier. The matte texture is natural looking and the wide range of shades provides a fool proof option for every skin color – the new shades like Rich Cocoa and Deep Chocolate are incredible.

Hourglass’ cheek stain is another summer winner with its bright long lasting color that can be applied with the fingertips. Top it all off with a swipe of Lancome’s color fever gloss, ala the brand’s spokeswomen Daria Werbowy and Emma Watson. Were in love with the summery shade, Hibis-Kiss.

Anything that makes things simpler is always welcome and Ellis Faas‘ special summer bronze set is phenomenal. The futuristic silver pens contain a blush, a lipgloss and a shimmering gold highlighter; everything you need to create a beautiful look is right there at your fingertips. Faas’ name is familiar in fashion circles – she’s a frequent contributor in Vogue Italia and creates the trendsetting cosmetic looks for designers like Giambattista Valli and her new line takes a little of that glamour and brings it to the masses.

Heat Wave

May 26th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Muse Magazine steams it up with their summer issue and a sexy story by Harri Peccinotti. The slinky 70s style pin-up feature stars  Anne Vyalitsyna, Shannan Click, Behati Prinsloo, Heather Marks, Valentina Zeliaeva, Marloes Horst and Hannah Holman in the tiniest of bikinis chosen by stylist Susan Winget; the vibe is very vintage and Anne is the ultimate temptress on that come hither cover.

Blondes on Blondes

September 2nd, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

POP magazine has a thing for blondes; from Britney Spears on the cover, to the their portfolio of handpicked golden haired ladies, this issue might as well be dedicated to solely to all things blonde. Speaking of that Angus Munro cast portfolio, Jamie Morgan shoots just about every blonde – bleached and otherwise, in this special editorial. Who do you think has the best shot in the story and which blonde beauties should have been a part of this editorial.

Sexy Back

November 24th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Love him or hate him, Terry Richardson knows how to get your attention. His oft imitated but never duplicated style is sexy and memorable, and for the 2010 Pirelli calendar, Richardson brings a touch of cheekiness and sensuality with his snapshots of scantily-clad beauties. Whether it is the ethereal, Georgina Stojiljkovic posing with a very happy sloth or Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Marloes Horst looking pristine on white sand beaches; each picture is provocative yet playful.

Behind the scenes, Eniko Mihalik on a water buffalo

And what everyone’s been waiting for, the 2009 Pirelli Calendar by Terry Richardson. Italian Vanity Fair has the preview with the full cast (casting by Jennifer Starr). Fashionologie via Italian Vanity Fair.

———————————————–

One of our favorite stylists, Nicola Formichetti is featured on the Cut.

We’re all for more inclusiveness (British Vogue’s Alexander Schulman tackles the size 0 problem). Here’s Jezebel’s interesting take on it.

Here’s another interview for the Brazilian fans.. the very lovely Izabel Goulart.

Funny, funny, funny; French Vogue is “anti-pants” so says Jezebel.

There’s a new documentary coming out about Brazilian models. Though sadly it’s in Portugese only, who cares when you can look the gorgeous Gisele Bundchen, Raquel Zimmermann, Isabeli Fontana, Caroline Trentini, Adriana Lima and Caroline Ribeiro emote in their native language. (Take a peek at rarely seen Cyril Brule, owner of Viva and Marilyn Gauthier, owner of Marilyn’s and photographer Peter Beard).

If you don’t know JD Ferguson‘s background, read about the model/photographer/general man about town and his fun times with Karl Lagerfeld and the top models.

Sans Artifice is a fan of photographer Norman Jean Roy,  he “brings out the Vogue ethos“.

New Dutch model agency to watch! Modelution is featured on the Ones2Watch.
Continuing in the same vein as Sarah Ziff in Picture Me, Frockwriter explores the dark side of the industry.
Gisele AND Jesus on the same runway…. The Brazilians are buzzing about the Colcci show.

If you’re in Chicago, Wednesday June 24th, go meet Elite Chicago’s scouts (click on the link for age and height requirements).

Home of Johanna Knepper (hot new face of Givenchy show this past spring), Just WM Paris has a  new blog!

Terry shooting the 11 beauties;  Eniko Mihalik, Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Catherine McNeil, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Daisy Lowe, Gracie Carvalho, Marloes Horst, Lily Cole, Ana Beatriz Barros, Miranda Kerr, Georgina Stojiljkovic.
