MAIYET
Designer: Kristy Caylor
Model: Alana Bunte

The vision for Maiyet has always represented a global mindset and this season with founder Kristy Caylor taking the design reigns, that perspective is clearer and more appealing than ever. With references ranging from Jazz Age designer, Emilie Floge’s couture pieces to El Anatsui’s wood carvings, Caylor certainly isn’t lacking for inspiration and the pieces she crafts represent an exciting mix of old and new. Standouts included graphic printed overcoats and flowing, lighter than air dresses worn with ease.

Models: Elisabeth Erm, Marique Schimmel & Caroline Brasch Nielsen

Chloe strikes a nonchalantly elegant mood with a collection that focuses on the beauty of a laid back look. Relaxed tailoring and a beachy color palette create a feel that is undone, yet sophisticated – even the evening gowns have a casualness that makes them enticing. Guipures and embroidered details add a sense of playfulness, while standout accessories reinforce the house’s heritage as originator of the it-bag – keep an eye on the gold bar embellished Clare satchel.

PreFall & Pre-Fails

January 11th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Two pre-fall looks we love, two pre-fall looks we don’t.
The collections dissected with commentary- every other day till the pre-season wraps.

LOVED ITDEREK LAM
This look isn’t reinventing the wheel, but Derek made the whole sage utilitarian thing look so luxe on Caroline Brasch Nielsen that we can’t help but love it. Wearable, practical and completely in line with the pre-fall aesthetic.

WTF?!BALENCIAGA
The problem with being a consumate trendsetter is that sometimes you’re just too ahead of the curve. Nicolas Ghesquiere has perfectly approximated what we’ll all be wearing post-apocalypse, right down to the multiple hats and protective gloves. We can barely see the lovely Marte Mei van Haaster beneath all this!

LOVED ITNINA RICCI
Who can argue with perfection? This dramatic Nina Ricci number looks couture worthy on Josephine Skriver.

OIC…STELLA McCARTNEY
When Stella McCartney labeled herself “too sensible” earlier in the week we failed to see the problem, however after viewing these glorified long johns we’re starting to understand where she’s coming from. There is a time and a place for thermal underwear and pre-fall is not it. Even Marique Schimmel can’t pull off Snuggie-chic.

In A Russh

December 5th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Russh wraps up the year with a beautiful look at laid back fashions and a host of the seasons model MVPs. The “Born to Be” issue embraces the individual, whether they’re wild or tame and provides a Russh take on the fashion extremes. Marique Schimmel graces the hippie chic cover by Nick Dorey and stars in the engaging fashion feature. Inside Marte Mei van Haaster and Monika Sawicka showcase the current trend for deconstructed denim in Amy Troost‘s denim story, while Bambi Northwood Blyth is a beauty come undone in Stephen Ward‘s images. Last but not least, Fresh face Anna Brewster is the picture of ethereal loveliness in Derek Henderson‘s black and white ‘Cloud Street’.

Preview the image for yourself with these exclusives from the Dec/Jan issue of Russh.

After Hours

August 9th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Just what are Saskia de Brauw and Marique Schimmel up to in Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott‘s moody Gucci-centric story for Interview? Late nights in the park, cavorting with a mysterious man (who just so happens to be Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan) dressed to the nines in Frida Gianinni‘s 70s inspired collection: it all looks glam, but just a little seedy.
