We Are Vandals

December 5th, 2013 |Posted by victoria

A brand new bi-annual international publication— Vandals Magazine- arrives next week in Paris and we get a special sneak peak at the special portrait series, “We are Vandals” by Mathieu Vladimir Alliard featuring some of the season’s most in demand faces. The black and white series, with the concept to keep the girls as raw as possible “using no hair styling, and employing only one or two bold colors of makeup to create a ‘vandalish’ effect”, is featured here on Models.com exclusively (the issue itself is color and will have different images). The magazine, a 400 page tome, was developed in Paris, produced in New York, and designed in Barcelona, giving it a truly global air. With no ads and based solely on content, Vandals looks to be more than just your average fashion magazine. The magazine’s first issue ‘Volume 0’ will be printed in limited edition and is available on December 16th in Europe, and internationally soon after. Preorder your copy from now-December 15th, and for more from Vandals visit We Are Vandals’s website.

In the meantime, see the preview below; let us know in the comments which is your favorite portrait.

Altuzarra Mode

June 21st, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Altuzarra – Resort 2014 from Simon Cave Studios on Vimeo.

Joseph Altuzarra‘s Resort 2014 collection comes to life in an atmospheric film by Simon Cave that adds a touch of mystery to Altuzarra’s romantic array of looks. Manuela Frey, Kayley Chabot and Magdalena Jasek feature in the black and white clip, which pulses with energy and a killer soundtrack courtesy of Cave himself. When asked what inspired the cutting-edge clip Cave pointed to the line’s powerful ethos, “for the past few years I have to been visiting Joseph’s studio and I drew a lot of inspiration from his amazing mood boards. I wanted the film to have classic, chic, sexy and seductive themes but still be modern.”

Experience the stunning new film above and take a look at a few choice pieces from Altuzarra’s elegant resort collection below.

Maker’s Marc

June 7th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

For resort NYC’s fashion king showcased two very different looks united by their focus on ease and their unpretentious take on luxury.

MARC BY MARC JACOBS
Model: Magdalena Jasek

Marc by Marc’s youthful spirit is evident in the line’s upbeat resort offerings. The mixture of whimsical trompe l’oeil detailing and layered digital prints, creates a vibrant feel, while classic shapes call to mind vintage cool. Who wouldn’t look fabulous with a well placed black beret and a great A-Line printed skirt? Add in layered chiffon separates, a slew of covetable overcoats and choice satchels from the brand’s inescapable accessories line and you have the makings of the perfect ingenue wardrobe.

MARC JACOBS

Marc Jacobs’ fondness for pajama dressing has made headline news and his resort collection isn’t entirely pj-focused, it captures the same relaxed, understated vibe he’s been channelling lately. Though mariner stripes and loose silhouettes abound there is still a touch of glamour via sequined pieces and artfully detailed furs. The ladylike leanings of tweed jackets and satin skirts cannot be ignored, even when they’re paired with Birkenstock-esque sandals and stomach baring tops.

Resort Getaway

May 24th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Resort is underway and designers are turning out collections filled with surprising elements – whether the look is downtown cool, or polished elegance, the mini-season is off to a refreshing start.

BURBERRY PRORSUM
Designer: Christopher Bailey
Models: Ava Smith & Charlotte Wiggins

The Burberry look has always been a mix of luxe and offbeat, so this season’s playful touches like jeweled detailing and transparent lace skirts feel just right. Bailey masterfully reinterprets the house’s standards season after season, so for those in search of trench coats, cardigans and well cut jackets there is plenty to enjoy. Statement looks like pastel brocade topcoats and crystal covered pencil skirts provide the requisite easy-going glamour resort is all about.

DKNY
Models: Valery KaufmanEmeline Ghesquiere

You can have the DKNY resort collection in any color – as long as it’s black. DKNY has always reflected the needs of an urbane, youthful consumer but for resort things got gritty. Perhaps taking a cue from the haute-goth stylings of lines like Givenchy, DKNY filled their collection with hard-edge black pieces in multiple incarnations. Lacy blouses, transparent floor-length skirts and textured bomber jackets all in inky shades. A few chic metallic pieces added interest, but the stark looks stole the show.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA

Who can resist Oscar de la Renta’s frothy brand of femininity. For the legendary designer the resort season meant an abundance of lively colors and cocktail frocks filled with color, pattern and a youthful joie de vivre. Even if you’re not rushing out to brunch, or a fabulous party in one of De La Renta’s creations everyone can appreciate the grandeur of his vision.

Falling 4 Pre-Fall

December 6th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Pre-fall is in full swing and the season between seasons is providing us with plenty of eye-candy this time around. Take a look at some of our favorites so far and be sure to let us know what you’re loving in the comments.

HELMUT LANG

Model: Kel Markey / Images Courtesy Helmut Lang

Neutrals – particularly dramatic black and white – are the bread and butter of the new incarnation of Helmut Lang. Don’t let last season’s foray into bold color fool you, designers Michael and Nicole Colovos have always had a special place in their heart for a restrained color palette. The duo also loves a sharply cut leather jacket and a well applied use of ombre, so their pre-fall look was just one hit after another.

Calvin Klein Collection
Models: Magdalena Jasek, Sara Blomqvist, Katya Ryabinkina

Naturally designer Francisco Costa gave Calvin loyalists minimalism, but the brand’s pre-fall looks had an autumnal twist. Described as ‘essential classics’ Costa’s pieces were appealing reinventions of pieces every woman ought to have in her wardrobe; the perfect camel coat, the figure hugging shift, even a few pared down dresses that can go from day into evening.

GIVENCHY
Model: Ricardo Figueiredo

Givenchy always keeps us on our toes and their pre-fall offerings are no exception; leather shorts, deconstructed argyle sweaters, blazers emblazoned with the word pervert – everything is just a little off-kilter, but that keeps things exciting. Like many designers do during this season, Riccardo Tisci looked to the idea of essentials and took some of his bestselling pieces into fresh territory. Just when you think you’ve tired of those ubiquitous doberman t-shirts, Tisci gives you a remixed version of the statement look done in a digitized print.

3.1 PHILLIP LIM
Model: Valery Kaufman / Images Courtesy Phillip Lim

Easily the most sophisticated take on the biker lore that we’ve seen in ages. Fashionphiles are sure to see some Balenciaga parallels in this collection, but adapting high fashion ideas for contemporary set is part of Lim’s formula. Lim played with embellishment, adding in crystals, embroidery and loads of layering for added interest. As always accessories are on point, with a sporty brand new backpack serving as the standout piece.
